Dear PoPville,

I live in Logan and every weekday, I walk by a new restaurant called Tortino on my way home–it’s on 11st St NW, between M and N, on the west side of the street. For the past few months they’ve been getting it ready and it appears to have opened for business in the last week or so, but I can’t find anyone talking about it on the internets. It’s a small, Italian restaurant. Any intel on who is behind it, any info about whether the food is any good, etc?

I stopped in to the new space as yesterday (thanks to all who wrote in) and I was pleasantly surprised. It doesn’t look like much from the outside but once you step inside, you’ll see that they did an amazing job. It’s two spaces combined. And the menu looks great too. You can see it here.

They’ve been open a couple of weeks but will be having their Grand Opening celebration on New Years Eve:

The Craigslist ad says:

“Unique find . . . picture three rooms stacked on top of each other.

The tiled 1st floor holds the kitchen, renovated half bath, a large cedar-lined closet, and storage area perfect for bikes, etc. The 2nd floor is an open room with hardwood floors, bay windows, a working fireplace, and a small balcony. The bedroom is on the 3rd floor with a closet, shelves, full bath, hardwood floors, and a great view through sunlit bay windows.

You also get a bricked garden area with flowers, rose bushes, perennials, etc.

There is a lot of morning sun throughout the house; a skylight in the 3rd floor bathroom, which also has a full size tub and a washer and dryer. The kitchen has a dishwasher and there are ceiling fans on every floor.

There is ample street parking and the U Street Metro is just one block away. The house is located between trendy Logan Circle and the famous U street/14th street corridor. You will be within walking distance of a Whole Foods, a Giant and dozens of boutique shops, clubs and bars.

The house is perfect for a single or a couple and is available now or January 1st.

Sorry, no pets allowed.”

This “Unique/Petite Rowhouse” is going for $2150.

“Dear PoP,

I wanted to post a question to your readers on what the neighborhood would like to see open a Bistro Wine Bar or a Tavern. I am in the process of signing a lease in the Shaw Neighborhood and wanted a feedback from the community and will go with what gets the most votes either a Wine Bar or a Tavern.”

“Dear PoPville,

Apologies for the terrible picture, I was stopped at a red light, in the dark, at a distance. This is the property right at 4th & Florida NW, just off Rhode Island Ave that was recently renovated, but then nothing happened to it for the last 18 plus months, give or take. It’s kind of a neat property on a triangle corner that I’ve always thought had a lot of potential. Last night (Thurs Nov 17) I saw lights on on the second floor and bodies moving around. I walk or drive by that property every day and cannot ever recall seeing movement or lights on since the renovation was done. Do you or readers have any idea what might be happening to with that place? From what I could tell in my brief 34 seconds to get a glimpse that second floor was just white walls and empty space, nothing fancy.”

Anyone know if folks have started moving in? You can see what it looked like when the scaffolding came down in March 2010 here.

Last week the Washington Post reported:

“Living Social continues to rapidly expand and consume new office space in the District to accommodate that growth.

The online coupon company plans to lease 1005-1011 7th Street NW, a historic property across the street from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center commonly referred to as the Acme Stove Building, owned by Douglas Development.”

Walking by last weekend I was surprised to see the building completely covered as work had already begun.
