In case you haven’t realized it there is a ton of development/renovation/construction going on in Petworth. It is phenomenal and really does provide hope for the future. This is a picture of a block I found that had a whole row of houses being gutted. Must have been about 5 or 6 houses right next to each other completely gutted. I just hope they are reasonably priced so that they don’t remain empty languishing on the market. On a related note that beautiful shell on the corner of Upshur and N.H. has not seen much progress. It actually looks like they just stopped working. I still have lots of hope for the future. It is very easy to imagine how amazing these blocks are going to look once the renovations are completed.

Perhaps many of you have seen this terrific sculpture just off Georgia and Upshur. Unfortunately the sign explaining what it is has deteriorated. From what I could tell it was some sort of tribal sculpture but I wish I knew what the whole sign said. It is pretty cool, no?

Nothing too crazy here just a beautiful corner row house with a great turret and wrap around porch. Nice landscaping too.

Let’s not beat around the bush with fancy Polish names or names reminding us of the 20s. This restaurant which is freshly opened on Georgia Ave is perhaps one of the most beautiful sights this eye has seen. I’m not sure how healthy it is but damn it, it has the greatest name ever. I’m not exactly sure why the chicken is dancing but that is a topic for a different post.

One of our many Churches in Petworth. This one has a refined beauty. If you walk by on a Sunday you can sometimes hear beautiful singing.

I would lose my blogging license if I didn’t note the fact that we got some snow today. It makes Grant Circle look more beautiful than ever.

Name: Keith

Location: 5th and Quincy

Duration: 2 1/2 years

Backstory: moved from Hampton Roads but originally from Detroit. His friend had a house in Petworth and moved to NY. As Keith was moving to the area for a job he encouraged him to move in and take care of the house. Keith loves the neighborhood and is now looking to buy a house of his own. Although, he fears it may be too expensive to buy in DC. Nevertheless he is looking in Petworth and Takoma.

Favorite haunt: He just found Domku yesterday in the Washington Post. Although he gets a lot of information from his friend in NY who still keeps up to date with Petworth as well as Petworth News. Outside of Petworth, Keith really enjoys Bohemian Caverns and Busboys and Poets in the U Street area.

Job: A buyer for a defense contractor

Best part about living in Petworth: The people tend to be very nice and friendly.

Note about the shirt: This is a Manchester United jersey but Keith actually supports their arch rival Arsenal. Your secret is safe with us!

This is the brand new Seagrave 2006 recently put into commission by the DCFD. These guys have more Petworth Pride than anyone else I have spoken to by far. These are the unsung heroes who reply to call after call without getting recognized. In fact this vehicle was just returning from a call when I got to the station. They have a badass logo on the side captured in this photo. So thanks to Petworth’s Bravest who are always watching our back.
