Exiting the Petworth metro this afternoon I was handed a flier announcing Papa John’s grand opening at 1417 Otis Place. Until May 31st you can get a large 2 topping pizza for $10. 202-667-7272 Wild. But I guess the question is: If you can get delivery from Moroni and Bros. why would one ever get Papa John’s? I guess that garlic dipping sauce is pretty damn delicious.
Petworth

It looks like they recently got a new paint job. The media center is located on Georgia Ave. just south of Upshur. Apparently it is an internet cafe among other things but it always seems to be closed when I walk by. So has anyone been here or no what the deal is?

My favorite part of this piece can be found after the jump. (more…)

Now I know this one wasn’t too expensive. But I’m also fairly certain that a lot of love was poured into this sign. While the paint is clearly dry, you can tell that the pride is still dripping wet.
Thanks once again to DC Real Estate agent, Kevin Wood for putting together a list of home and condo sales for the month of April. April Home Sales So do you think prices have started to stabilize in this zip codes?

Thanks to the many, many folks who sent me the Washington Business Journal article about Magic Johnson investing in Petworth. These are the condos going up above the Petworth metro. Above is a photo of Magic at the groundbreaking of the Park Place condos from 2007.
The article says: “The project, to be called Park Place, will include 161 residential units, both condominiums and rental apartments, 16,000 square feet of retail and an underground parking garage. The developers say 20 percent of the units will be dedicated as affordable units. The one and two bedroom apartments will average 860 square feet.”
Interesting that it says “both condominium and rental apartments”. Had anyone else heard about that? Anyway, great to have Magic Johnson involved with Petworth!

It’s not spectacular but it has a certain reserved dignity that I admire.
Red Derby at 14th and Quincy invites you to drink Mint Julips all day long.
It is that time of year. Time to drink yourself silly, meet some of your neighbors and make fun of PoP in person! Who can ask for more? The folks at Looking Glass Lounge have been kind enough to extend happy hour prices all night long. Additionally, manager Dan Searing, will be offering Mojito specials to mark the occasion. This happy hour is fixing to be the biggest one yet. I’ll remind folks again as the date approaches.
Now for a small admin note. Some folks who leave a comment are placed in “moderation”. Let me just say, I have no idea why this happens to some people and not others. It is nothing personal and hopefully the comments get published pretty quickly. I apologize for the inconvenience and hope one day to have it fixed. Thanks for understanding.
Some potentially good, some potentially not so good.
Disclaimer: The following is scuttlebutt, rumor, things I’ve heard. Take it with a grain of salt. Although I have a 95% success rate with these rumors turning out to be true, nevertheless there is always a possibility the following could fall in the 5% false category.
The last retail space in the strip of new retail on Irving Street will be… A Mocha Hut! So now Columbia Heights will officially be a coffee lover’s haven. You’ve got Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, Mayorga, Columbia Heights Coffee and now Mocha Hut. So what do you think – a good addition?
Now for the not so good – I’m hearing that the new Yes! Organic Market that is coming to Georgia Ave. is facing some difficulties. What are the difficulties? Well, apparently there is a moratorium on liquor licenses and they may not be able to get one. This would be very bad for their business. And for us. So start whatever grassroots action you can to make sure that the Yes! Organic Market gets a liquor license. Of course I have no idea how that happens. So do you think the Yes! Organic Market should be allowed to have a liquor license?
