Update from WMATA:

Metro is mourning the loss of a heroic employee, Robert Cunningham, who intervened on behalf of a customer today at Potomac Avenue Station and was a victim of senseless gun violence. Mr. Cunningham was 64 years old and a mechanic in our power department. In his remembrance, Metro has lowered its flags to half-staff during this time of grief. “Dear PoPville,

The Safeway on 14th St SE has started not only closing, but physically blocking one of their main entrances. I get wanting to close an entrance during non-peak periods to avoid the need for a security guard, but this is happening at 5 o’clock on a weeknight and they’re actually putting obstacles (shopping carts, boxes, etc…pic is just one recent example) in front of the doors. What if there’s a fire or shooting and people need to escape quickly? Isn’t this a fire issue?”
