The Craigslist ad says:

“Fully furnished, spacious penthouse (6th floor) with great light, five balconies, and expansive city views in historic building at 3426 16th Street (The Northbrook II). Features hardwood floors, new kitchen, a/c, w/d, large closets and beautiful appointments. Can be used as one or two bedroom depending upon your needs.”

You can see a virtual tour here.

I was intrigued by the declaration of a “Sun-drenched Unique Penthouse”. Well, I’m glad I looked. Does $2900 sound right for this 2 bedroom?

“Dear PoP,

This house has been mentioned before in the blog I think. A 92-year-old woman died. This is how it looked this morning from the sidewalk.”

Indeed I have always admired this home (and the big tree in front of it). But obviously I’m far more saddened by the loss of life. Sending thoughts and prayers to the woman’s family.

Ed. Note: Yesterday I was away from the computer at the time of the fire. In those cases I usually tweet the news sent to me from readers. You can follow me on twitter @PoPville here.

They had me at “sophisticated 3rd floor master suite with wet bar”…

What do you guys think? $879,000 sound reasonable for this 5 bed/2 bath?

“Dear PoP,

The bottom line is that they’re putting an addition on the house, cutting in a couple new entrances, plowing under the garden to create a small parking lot, and cobbling the house itself into ten apartments.

I took an interest in this place because of it was untouched by the ravages of stupid modern-day renovations. Unlike almost any property in Mount Pleasant (or central d.c.) its a house with a yard. This new plan will ruin the place in the same fashion of the big white mansion next door.”

You can see the full proposal below. Do you agree with the reader or think it’ll be a good renovation?

Here’s the Historic Commission’s report on the plan.

Thanks to a reader for sending in some interesting Mt. Pleasant news. First is word on what is coming to the old Mt. Pleasant Deli space ( closed since May ’09) at 3068 Mt. Pleasant St, NW. – NANA Clothing Boutique. They are currently located at 1528 U St, NW but will be moving to Mt. Pleasant soon. We spoke about the shop back in Aug. ’08.

And I’m happy to finally answer some reader inquiries as to what’s going on at 3124 Mt. Pleasant St, NW. It turns out that McCormick Paints will be moving from 1460 P Street NW to Mt. Pleasant in mid-2011.

Great news for Mt. Pleasant.

As I mentioned last week, from time to time, I may rejudge a restaurant that has fallen under the radar or experienced some changes. This week I think we should take a look at Burritos Fast which briefly closed in Dec. ’09 but reopened in Jan. at 3213 Mount Pleasant St NW. I just noticed they put a new Tex Mex decal in their window. I think it looks good. For those who’ve eaten their recently – have you noticed any changes? How’s the burritos? Are there any new Tex Mex options?
