At long last the Mt. Pleasant Temporium opens tomorrow at 3068 Mt. Pleasant St. NW.

From an email:

The Mt. Pleasant Temporium is a temporary, pop-up retailer coming to Mt. Pleasant St. NW for 24 consecutive days from February 18 through March 13. The project, located at 3068 Mt. Pleasant St. NW, is part of the District’s new Temporary Urbanism initiative and features handmade goods for sale from 30 local, independent crafters and artists.

The Temporium’s special events schedule includes autobiographical and theatrical storytelling, crafting, book readings, and live music. All events are free and open to the public. Opening weekend includes a reception on Friday, Feb. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The theme of the Mt. Pleasant Temporium is storytelling, which is woven throughout the retail aspect of the shop to give visitors a truly engaging experience with the products for sale and the stories behind the artists who made them. Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in the theme by leaving their own handwritten stories in the Temporium’s storefront window installation, created by local artists Sean Hennessey and Rania Hassan.

Wow, @metrocurean tweeted some huge news Tues. afternoon:

“Coming to Mt Pleasant this spring: Flying Fish Coffee & Tea @ 3064 Mt Pleasant St. pouring @counter_culture coffee + @TSCreamery milk.”

This is the space in between Golden Scissors and the Mayflower Chinese Restaurant. You can see it has a for lease sign in the google street view above.

They already have a Facebook page that says:

“Flying Fish, coffee and tea is a coffee shop in Mt Pleasant, serving excellently prepared coffee, espresso, and tea, in addition to tasty pastries to accompany them.”

Actually it looks like they’ve had the space since Oct. as the following comment was made October 25, 2010 at 6:51pm:

“The Fish has landed! We officially have a space in Mt. Pleasant and will be opening as soon as we can make it look pretty. Updates will be forthcoming.”

Think this’ll be a good fit for Mt. Pleasant St, NW?

I hate to use the phrase twice in one week but I think if this place is even moderately well run it will have a license to print money…

And on a side note it seems that this space was once destined for Urban Sustainable that has since opened up at 1787 Columbia Rd, NW in Adams Morgan. This came up in a google search:

At the end of Dec. we learned of a temporium to open up in the future Nana’s space at 3068 Mt. Pleasant St, NW. Last week a press release went out announcing a 2nd location near the convention center:

The DC Office of Planning (OP) is pleased to award funding to establish two Temporiums, or local pop-up retail shops. A Temporium transforms vacant storefronts or spaces into a temporary retail space for local entrepreneurs to exhibit and sell their work. Awardees include Mount Pleasant Main Street and Shaw Main Streets.

The Mount Pleasant Main Street Temporium will feature handmade goods from independent crafters and artists, as well as special programming such as autobiographical and theatrical storytelling, trunk shows, educational panels, and live music. The Shaw Main Streets Temporium will incorporate local fashion and design, unique art installations and offer workshops, sewing classes and special events.

The Mt. Vernon Square/Shaw location will be located at 1005 7th Street NW (pictured above). Not clear when they will open but the Mt. Pleasant location has announced it’s opening date for Jan. 28th.
