“Dear PoP,

Martinez and Johnson architects are supposed to come to the ANC meeting on July 19 to discuss their plans for redeveloping the Meridian Hill Baptist Church on 16th Street. Personally, I think this looks like a respectful and ambitious repurpose of the church, which was burned back in 2008 when the Deauville caught fire. You can see the original messages at www.anc1d.org.”

Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for Meridian Hill Baptist Church – PART 1a.

If anyone goes to the July 19th meeting let us know how the meeting goes.

You can find an update on The Monseñor Romero Apartments (Deauville) apartments (3145 Mt Pleasant St, NW) here:

NHT Enterprise was selected by the Tenants to assist them in purchasing and redeveloping the building, and with their assistance the Association secured a loan from the DC Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and purchased the building on June 26, 2010.

Now, the work continues to develop plans and assemble the financing that will allow the property to be rebuilt and the residents to return. Over $400,000 in predevelopment loans and grants have already been assembled from the DC Neighborhood Investment Fund (NIF), DHCD and Capital One Bank’s Investing in Neighborhood’s Program (COIN).

I always shake my head when I see this in the window of the burned out shell:

Always fun for me when former houses of the day go up for sale. What do you think of the inside? $659,900 sound right for this 3 bed/2.5 bath?

From dcalerts:

“Shooting Shooting Adult Male 2250 Hrs 1700 Block of Irving Street, NW”

“Dear PoPville,

After a two year saga that included five failed contracts, my fiance and I just managed to buy this house. It was a double short sale (the owner had two mortgages, both of which had to take a loss), with four tenants, and is in good group-house condition. We think we got a good deal, but what about the commentariat?”

This 5 bed/3.5 bath, located at 3163 18th St, NW in Mt. Pleasant, was bought for $720,000. You can see photos here.

First let me say congrats on your perseverance! Given the location and even if it needs $100k in reno I still think it’s a good deal because of the location and size. Houses that size in Mt. Pleasant regularly go for over $1 million.

What do you guys think?

The Craigslist ad says:

$950/mo. + utilities sound right for this basement apartment?

“Dear PoP,

It’s not likely to happen as it would be a huge waste of money, but in DC you never know so I’m hoping you’ll spread the word. The MTP Library expansion is nearly complete. If you walk by the site you can see it has really taken shape. In fact the entire renovation is set to be complete THIS winter and yet it seems it is still mired in legal battles. Housing Complex notes that there is even a possibility that they will have to tear everything down.

I want to encourage everyone from Ward 1 to come out in support of the expansion because regardless of what your stance was before it was built, it is ridiculous to reverse course now. Initially some were against it so money could instead be allocated to building another library in ward one, but now that the expansion has been built, reversing course would result in millions being wasted and a second library would then take even longer to come to fruition. I am hoping that things are allowed to proceed and we can all meet and peruse books this winter in an expanded, inviting library. But we need to make it known that reversing course would be an extremely unpopular decision.”

We previously spoke about the Mt. Pleasant Library Renovation and Addition here and here.
