Thanks to all who sent emails and tweets about the disturbing discovery of dead chickens and roosters along the 3500 block of 17th St, NW along Rock Creek Park in Mt. Pleasant. The Washington Post reported:

“Sgt. Lelani Woods, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Park Police, said the uniform way each bird was killed is leading investigators to believe the killings were part of a cult practice. The bodies were turned over to animal control officers. Woods said police believe the birds were killed elsewhere and dumped along a makeshift path sometime before snow started to fall Tuesday morning.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m writing with an important update on Adam Express. Their buyer backed out after all the paperwork had been signed to sell the property. Because they have no buyer, they will no longer be closing on 3/29. They are open indefinitely until they can figure out what to do. They wanted this information disseminated as soon as possible because news of their closing has inundated them with more business than they can actually handle.”

Ed. Note: This is bittersweet news as I stopped by last week to take some photos and say good bye to the Baes – they seemed so happy to be retiring. While they will be deeply missed, I hope they find a new buyer soon.

Terrible news tweeted to us last night from @blondetexasdem:

“Omg @PoPville just found out #AdamExpress closing @ the end of the month!!!”

Back in 2011 Adam Express temporarily closed due to a health problem with Mrs. Bae. There was a huge outpouring of support and Adam Express reopened a few months later.

News of this closure will be devastating to many.

Thanks to @lisaeileenlewis for tweeting us the news on Saturday:

“Lia Cafe opened today in #mtpdc @ 3103 Mt. Pleasant St. NW! Brazilian food/drinks/treats.”

Lia Cafe’s website says:

“The idea behind Lia Café Brazil was to bring a taste of Brazilian culture to the Washington, D.C. metro area. Nestled in the heart of Mount Pleasant’s bustling collection of shops and restaurants, Lia Café Brazil is a wonderful place to relax, and enjoy the company of friends while partaking of robust Brazilian coffee and delicious Brazilian foods.

Need a quick break from the hectic pace of your busy life? Then come inside and immerse yourself in the calming ambience of a traditional Brazilian loja (the Portuguese word for “emporium”), a place where customers are regarded as guests, and shopkeepers are regarded as hosts. Or, if you prefer to be in the open air while catching your breath, we also have outdoor seating for your pleasure.”

Check out their menu here.

“Dear PoPville,

Just wanted to drop a note to let you know about a couple of random acts of kindness we witnessed today during our drive to work. My husband and I were making our way up Irving St, NW towards Mt Pleasant St when a car in front of us got stuck on ice and couldn’t get enough traction to make it up the hill. Two people walking by saw what happened so they got behind the car and pushed it out. They were all smiles.

Just after they were done, ANOTHER car had the same problem and the people came right back to push that car as well. Plus, a third person came over to help.

All smiles again.

Good work MtP!”
