Following the theme of judging restaurants in hotels, the Beacon Bar & Grill is located at 1615 Rhode Island Avenue, NW. Is this place more of a bar or a restaurant? Good place for brunch? You can find their menus here.

Tomatillo Taqueria is located at 1347 Connecticut Ave NW serving out of the Big Hunt space. According to Yelp it looks like it has been open since October and their users seem to like it. What’s the word here? Anyone try them out yet?

Last week I mentioned that Rogue States was coming soon. This past weekend I was able to chat with owner and chef, Raynold Mendizabal, of Rogue States. First off, they are trying to open this week, though they are still awaiting some permit approvals so this week might be a bit ambitious. Their mission is written write on the wall:

“To be a rogue member of the fast food industry, serving great artisan food in an undeniably chic environment.”
Still a bit of work going on inside:

All of their burgers are half pound and will cost $7. It is interesting to note that when they do open the place will be open from 11am – 5am daily. I’m not too familiar with food options open this late in DC. I see this as a positive development for late night eating in DC.

From an email:
“An introduction to social tango for the curious and cautious! A taste of partner connection, tango vocabulary, dance floor navigation and tango musicality. This is a single one-hour session offered weekly before the Tuesday Milonga at 18th Street Lounge. A restored town house mansion, the Lounge has been legendary in DC nightlife for years. ESL is an enticing environment for dancers, with original hardwood flooring, high ceilings, and comfy antique couches and chairs all around. We are in the Gold Room, behind the curtain just off the main floor.
8-9pm, Tuesdays
taught by Sharna Fabiano
@ 18th St. Lounge, 1212 18th St. NW (METRO: Dupont or Farragut North)
Cost: $10

This condo is located at 1718 P Street, NW:
The flier says:
“Popular Webster House condo. Updates galore: granite counters, roomy kitchen, built-in bookshelves, California closets, fabulous flooring, balcony patio with western exposure, crown moulding, custom window treatments, pet-friendly, on-site rental parking, swimming pool, all utilities in fee, staffed front desk, walk to METRO, shopping, restaurants and more.”

Well, it has been a while since we’ve looked at a studio apartment. The photos look nice but it is only 500 square feet. Does $249,750 sound reasonable given the location? What do you think of the layout of the studio itself?

Mezza Luna is located at 1140 19th St NW. While I’m normally averse to any establishment with Cowboys paraphernalia out front, I am always interested in learning of good places to watch sports. So in addition to the food is this a good place to catch a game as well?

This sweet bike rack is from outside the Dupont South metro station. I’m sure it’s been there for a bit but this weekend was the first time I spotted it.

Rogue States has applied for a liquor license at 1300 Connecticut Ave south of Dupont Circle. The description from the alcohol application says it will serve sandwiches and burgers. Sounds like it could be a good lunch option for those that work in the area.

“Dear PoP,
Penang on 19th Street appears to be closed for good. I walked by it at lunchtime, and it was completely dark. There’s no sign on the door (I didn’t have my camera with me), and one of my coworkers said it was completely dark before the holidays as well. I wonder if they never fully recovered after being closed for so long after the fire.”
I thought I had heard that Penang located at 1837 M Street NW would be reopening in Feb. Anyone else hear that?
We Judged them back in Aug. ’10.

“Dear PoP,
I took my dog to the 17th & S dog park this morning and found a ring shining in the snow. I figure its owner lost it and probably wants it back – looks like a wedding ring. Anyway, I posted on craiglist and thought you might provide a link to that post:
