“Main Streets helps local business corridors reach their full potential, by fostering smart growth and attracting new customers.” said Mayor Muriel Bowser. “These three communities are prime for future success. My Administration will continue to invest in our neighborhood businesses because they, in turn, invest in our people.”
The mission of DC Main Streets is to lead sustainable, community-driven revitalization programs that promote economic development, strengthen their neighborhoods and improve the quality of life for residents. A program of the Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD), DC Main Streets serves as the citywide coordinating program that provides services and funding for the 10 Main Streets programs in the District of Columbia. These programs revitalize communities by retaining and recruiting businesses, improving commercial properties and streetscapes, and attracting consumers. Read More

“On December 9, 2015, the Washington Humane Society discovered an adolescent male domestic short-haired grey tabby cat dangling from a phone line across the alley of the 400 block of Newcomb St. SE and the 400 block of Mellon St. SE. It is believed this act was committed between the evening of December 8th and the morning of December 9th.
The Washington Humane Society desperately needs the help of the community for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this horrific act of animal cruelty. The Washington Humane Society is offering a $5,000.00 reward that will be given to any person who provides such information.

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced an arrest has been made in the homicide that occurred in the 1300 block of Congress Street, Southeast, on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at approximately 3:48 pm.
Members of the Seventh District responded for the report of a shooting in the 1300 block of Congress Street, SE. Upon arrival, they located an adult female and two juvenile males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. All victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The two juvenile males were admitted in stable condition. The adult female succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 31-year-old Tenika Fontanelle of Southeast, D.C.
After further investigation, one of the juvenile males admitted to the hospital has been arrested and charged with Murder One while Armed in the shooting death of Tenika Fontanelle.”
