The last second hand scuttlebutt we heard about the space next to Columbia Heights Coffee speculated that a vintage furniture store was on the way. A reader sends in some different speculation:

“I hear that the vacant space next to CH coffee will be a restaurant, three guys partnering up, a small, neighborhood tapas sort of place. Build out may start as early as this summer.”

I am a huge tapas fan so I’d be psyched if this was the case. You?

“Cute, well maintained recently renovated building/unit 1BR/1BA. Granite, stainless, hardwood floors, Perfect for 1st time buyer. Low fee. Close to Columbia Heights Metro and all shopping.”

More info and photos found here.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a price that is isn’t jaw dropping. This condo is one the first floor and is asking $219,000. Also in a quick search there is also a basement unit going for $229,000. But let’s consider the featured one on the first floor for $219,000 – sound reasonable?

“Dear PoP,

Ran by there this morning. Digging machine was tearing out the trees.

With groups like Casey Trees advocating us to plant more, I’m sure these could’ve been relocated instead of destroyed.”

And in other news, remember the house collapse on Quincy of New Hampshire Ave back in Feb. 08? Well, I saw some workmen finally getting to work on the place:

“Dear PoP,

Political blogger Andrew Sullivan has a regular feature called “View From Your Window” in which readers submit their photos. He’s been doing it for a couple years, and how he has decided to create a book with some of the submissions.

My window (in Columbia Heights) is one of the finalists to be put on the cover, which is currently open for voting. Do you think that your readers would be interested in seeing a local photo on the cover of this book? I think it’s a neat photo anyway, and it captures the experience of living in my basement apartment rather well, so I figured I’d send along the link to the voting in case you are interested.

The explanation is here:

The poll is here:

The photo is labeled “Washington, DC, 2:42 PM”

It’s a great shot, I hope you win!

Twitter user JTNT reports:

“Multiple shots fired on 7th St NW b/t Gallatin and Hamilton. No fatalities, but at least one individual was struck.

The scene as viewed upstairs in my house, complete with many evidence markers, mostly identifying bullets. I heard at least 10 shots.”

And in Columbia Heights, a reader writes:

“I just moved in to a condo on the 1100 block of Columbia Rd and last night around 6:15 I saw a guy running down our street east (away from the 13-1400 block) being chased by a bicycle cop. The cop tackled him right across the street from my house and then literally 20-30 cops screeched into the street, sirens blaring and guns drawn. It was a pretty spectacular show of force by DCPD. They proceeded to close down the street and search our block for what I’m assuming is a gun as one of the officers told me the suspect had been seen with a gun. Do you have any more details on what happened? Quite the welcome to the neighborhood!”

Yikes, I hadn’t heard about this one. Anyone have anymore details?

The scene from Columbia Road yesterday:

I’ve probably walked by this house a thousand times walking down 11th Street. But until I saw some folks looking at the fencing I had never realized exactly how small the area fenced in is. If this ever goes on sale, I’m dying to read the realtor literature. I’m guessing it’ll be called, cozy…

I remember when some folks were putting this spot together last year. I hadn’t checked it out since and there is a super cool addition. It is located on the 11th Street side of the building. It is super tranquil. Here’s the addition that looks great:

Check out some details and an explanation of the site after the jump. (more…)

The flier says:

“This is a fantastic top floor unit, 1 block from the metro and the redevelopment of Park Place. Being above the fray is wonderful and you will enjoy not only the view, the peace, but also all those lovely embellishments from recessed lighting, tub with jets, custom tile work, granite and stainless, as well as architectural details. The Woodrow is a lovely place to call home. & Furniture conveys”

More info but sadly no photos found here. I know I said I would try not to post homes without any photos but I think this is a worthy exception because its construction had been delayed for so long.

We looked at the carriage house unit of this condo back in March. Lots of folks were curious about the building in the front. I think it’ll be interesting to hear your thoughts on the price given the size and the location. Since the carriage house was a very nice renovation I assume this unit looks equally nice. Do you think $369,000 is reasonable for a 2 bed 2 bath on the top floor?
