Normally I wait a bit longer to judge new restaurants but I’ve been getting so many positive emails I wanted to share the good early word. Maple is located at 3418 11th St, NW next to Columbia Heights Coffee. Their website says:

“Modern American menu with Italian influences. Extensive selection of wine. Craft beers and specialty cocktails.”

You can see their menu here. Any must order items?

Sunday – Wednesday 5 p.m. to midnight
Thursday – Saturday 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Mondays closed

Last week I shared some scuttlebutt from a reader saying that Columbia Heights’ Best Buy was on the list of 50 Best Buys that will close. False alarm, false alarm. Thanks to everyone who sent in links from Best Buy’s PR department. One reader summed it up best:

“Looks like our local Best Buy is in the clear, whether that’s good or bad is up for debate of course.”

Dear PoPville,

I took this picture with my phone around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. It’s at the Giant in Columbia Heights. There was a massive mess in one of the aisles, so big that at least three employees were cleaning it up. It also seemed like an entire set of shelves was removed to help get rid of the mess. Any idea what caused this?

Anyone happen to know what happened?

A couple of weeks ago Best Buy announced it would be closing 50 big box stores around the country in 2013. While the list of stores had not been released a reader shares some scuttlebutt that Columbia Heights’ location in DC USA (14th and Irving St, NW) is on the list.

If accurate, do you think this would be a big loss for the DC USA mall or do you do most of your electronics shopping in Target anyway?

At least DSW is still coming…

A reader sends in the photo at 8:34am and sums up the situation succinctly:

“So, this is happening.”

Ugh. Anyone know what caused the back up? So far no word from WMATA’s twitter feed.

Pablo updates with this great photo:

Thanks to a reader for sending the word:

“Kokeb Ethiopian restaurant just opened yesterday at 3013A Georgia Ave NW. It looks like they’re still getting their things in order (no menu yet), but the food (we tried the Keye Wot and assorted veggies) was as good as any of our other favorite Ethiopian places in DC.

I really hope this one sticks in the neighborhood.”

Nice! Sounds promising. We’ll def. revisit for a proper judging after they’ve been open for a bit and finalize their menu.

3013 Georgia Ave, NW is located just north of Columbia Road.

For me, Spring doesn’t officially launch until the great fountain in Meridian Hill park gets filled in Columbia Heights.

What an awesome weekend to enjoy it.

And now a dignified Jeanne D’Arc keeps watch:
