It’s pretty small but they’ve got a pool so does “$1325 with all utilties included, cable and internet” sound right?

Sabores was located at 3435B Connecticut Ave. NW. Thanks to a reader for sending word last week after seeing that all the furniture had been removed. While they normally close for the summer – this one seems permanent as their phone had been disconnected and this is what a peek inside looks like:

In other eviction news – the Post reported last week:

“The Reserve was evicted from its building at 1426 L St. NW.”

The Reserve was located next to Post Pub

Back in Dec. ’10 Palena expanded their restaurant at 3529 Connecticut Avenue, NW. Earlier this week I noticed that the market has finally opened. It looks great – and is another good spot to pick up fresh bread (among other items). According to their Web site:

Palena Market is now open in the space adjacent to the new cafe. The market features imported and artisanal products used in the restaurant, as well as coffee, and ready-to-eat sweets and savories.

The Market Hours are:
Monday: Closed
Tuesday – Friday: 8 am – 8 pm
Saturday: 9 am – 8 pm
Sunday: 10 am – 3pm

The old Pesto (and Mrs Simpsons) space at 2915 Connecticut Ave, NW has been replaced with the newly opened Lillies. Back in early May it appeared that some sorta coffee house serving Seattle’s Best coffee would be moving into the space (they’ll still offer Seattle’s Best but they are also fine tuning a proper espresso machine). Turns out to be much more extensive. I stopped in to the newly opened spot yesterday to grab some photos. The space is very casual/comfortable inside and as some reader have noted to me in emails – the outdoor patio is fantastic. They are still working on their web site so I’ll post some photos of the menu after the jump. In the next 3-4 weeks they will also offer beer and wine.

Back in June ’10 we heard that Tackle Box would be opening up a 2nd location in Cleveland Park (other location is in Georgetown.) Tackle Box will be coming to the long vacant McDonald’s space at 3407 Connecticut Ave, NW. I had a chance to get a sneak peek of the space and the menu on Monday. If all goes well the space should be open by the end of this week. When the final permits are received I’ll update with an exact opening date. Below you can find the revamped menu:

TakeAwayMenu_TB_FINAL

The revamped menu will first be released in Cleveland Park and a couple of weeks later will be released in the Georgetown location. As for the Cleveland Park space itself – it is huge. It consists of two levels and has a similar feel to the Georgetown locale. For those who last remember the McDonald’s in this space – it will sorta blow your mind.

From an email:

“This Friday, May 13, from 6 pm to 8 pm, we are hosting a book signing for Chef Barton Seaver to showcase his newly released cookbook, For Cod and Country. And we’ll also have a critically acclaimed, world-class winemaker in the store (Pierre-Marie Chermette) to pour his wines made from sustainably-grown grapes. The cost for this event is $0 (also known as Free)–just come and enjoy a fun, while brief evening of talk by 2 leaders in their respective industries who also happen to care about the futures of their industries. More about the event can be found here. And please pass this along to anyone you would like–the more, the merrier. If you can make it, kindly RSVP–we are trying to get an idea of our numbers so we can plan accordingly.”

Weygandt Wines is located at 3519 Connecticut Ave., NW.

From Wikipedia:

In 2005, Seaver returned to Washington, D.C., and worked with chef José Andrés at the restaurant Jaleo. Seaver became executive chef of Café Saint-Ex and later its sister restaurant, Bar Pilar. He was chef-owner of the sustainable seafood restaurant Hook in Georgetown in 2007. Over the course of one year, Hook served 78 species of seafood. In addition, Seaver helped launch the casual seafood eatery Tackle Box. Seaver left Hook in 2008. He became chef of a new restaurant in the Glover Park neighborhood called Blue Ridge in 2009. His work at Blue Ridge led John Mariani of Esquire Magazine to name Seaver the 2009 Chef of the Year. The designation polarized restaurant critics. Seaver left Blue Ridge in early 2010 to work on other projects. His plans for a 6,700-square-foot (620 m2) combination sustainable seafood market and restaurant in Logan Circle to be called Diamond District Seafood Company were put on hold indefinitely in 2010 due to problems with the location.

“Dear PoP,

I saw today that the (city?) has replaced the standard overhead street lamps with cool, old timey looking lamp posts with a black iron look.

Do you know how this came about? Is this a city wide rejuvenation project?”

Yeah, it’s def. city wide. We talked a bit about the new lamp posts back in March ’10. We’ve been enjoying the new lamp posts in Petworth, Shaw and H St, NE (among other spots) for a few months now. Glad to hear they also hit Cleveland Park. Have you noticed any other neighborhoods getting them as well?

But to be honest, in Cleveland Park, I was far more excited about seeing this sign:
