It’s been a while since we’ve judged a building. Walking downtown I was stopped in my tracks. It is located at the corner of 6th and F Streets, NW. It opened Oct. 1st, 2007. There is a conversation with the architect, Jack Diamond, here. You can see some photos inside here. Thumbs up or down? Anyone see a play there?

I received an email about some work going on at Ollie’s Trolley located at 425 12th St, NW. It’s Web site says:

“Voted best in town for our famous seasoned burgers and fries with 26 herbs and spices including to die for shakes and soft serve ice cream.”

Sadly, it doesn’t say who voted… and it doesn’t mention a renovation. Anyway, are these among the best burgers and fries in town?

I know the below sign is new:

This archway was touched up a while ago and I just noticed the scaffolding was down. I think it looks exactly the same. Does it look more vibrant to you guys? Sunday was a beautiful day to see it again for the first time in a while.

For the record I think it looks great and always has.

“Dear PoP,

Something we can all take solace in seeing once in a while…

A DC Parking enforcement vehicle, illegally parked, and getting towed by a parking tow truck in front of the Verizon Center today.”

I hope it wasn’t broken down and was really towed because it was illegally parked. Well, that’d just be the coolest.

“Dear PoP,

I just noticed yesterday there’s a new place, Chinatown Coffeehouse, opened up on H right, NW near the corner of 5th.”

Always happy to hear about more coffee news! I stopped by this weekend and it’s a very comfortable place with a nice vibe going on. A good study/work spot too if you are in the area.

New restaurant, Osteria Bibiana, is coming to 1100 New York Ave, NW though it looks like the entrance will be on the back side on H Street, NW. It will be an “upscale Italian Restaurant” with a sidewalk cafe. I’m always happy to have more Italian options!

A new tavern called “Wired” is coming to 1015 1/2 7th Street, NW. The liquor application says, “New tavern offering snacks such as chips and cheese, live jazz music, DJ, karaoke and dancing. Occupancy load is 350”. Sounds pretty interesting.

And a bit further south at 406 7th Street, NW, Apartment Zero furniture store is moving. Their Web site says:

“Going forward, Apartment Zero will focus its resources on residential and commercial interior design, plus a dedicated office for contract sales to the trade (architects and interior designers). Apartment Zero will also be launching its e-commerce site offering a much larger and more exclusive range of products to a national audience in addition to the Washington DC area.

It has been our pleasure to serve you! We look forward to expanding our relationship with you now and in the future …. and who knows, perhaps you’ll see another retail concept pop up very soon.”

Zengo is located at 781 Seventh Street, NW. I think this is the first “Latin-Asian” restaurant I’ve seen. Sounds interesting. I’m also intrigued by the “Latin-Asian” cocktails for happy hour? How’s the atmosphere? Any particular dishes you recommend?
