The Iridium is located at 1306 Pennsylvania Ave, SE. A friend tells me that it is pretty new building. I’m digging the big balconies. What do you think of the style? This building also leads to another question. If you bought into a new building with the promise of retail on the first floor, would you pissed if a CricKet (as is the case here) or a tax preparer or something like that went in? Or are you far more concerned with the condo itself and whatever retail comes in would just be gravy?

“Fully renovated three level building located near Potomac Metro, Harris Teeter, Barracks Row & Eastern Market. Zoned C-2A but could easily be used as residential. Lower level currently tenant occupied mo-to-mo. Seller renovated to use as Office/Hair Salon but decided to retire. Nice property – shows well! Off-street pkg included in price!”

You can find more info here and a virtual tour here.

I was most interested in this property because it is located right next to the great sandwich shop Mangialardo & Sons. Do you think the zoning adds to the value? What do you think of the renovation? Does $799,000 sound reasonable for this location?

I finally had the opportunity to visit the great bar Wisdom located at 1432 Pennsylvania Ave. SE on Friday night. I was happily surprised to see that the place had a very chill atmosphere and most importantly the drinks were terrific. I feared that it was going to be a bit pretentious but fortunately I couldn’t have been more wrong. It just feels like a regular neighborhood bar along the lines of a slightly upper scale Red Derby. For those who want to check them out they’re having an absinthe tasting on Tuesday.

I’m also told that the nearby Trustys is a terrific bar. Anybody ever check either of these spots out before?

I thought I knew all of DC’s Universities but stumbled upon this one on Sunday. Their small Web site says:

” International Graduate University, a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) educational institution, founded in 1967, licensed to award graduate degrees by the District of Columbia, and approved by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs for veterans benefits, and provides I-20 Visas for students who apply and are accepted for admission with the application form presented in this website.”

They are located at 1325 D Street, SE. But when I asked some neighbors about it they said they thought the school was closed. I called the number listed and got an active voicemail so perhaps they are still open. Anyone familiar with this school? They did have an interesting lawn decoration:

Sadly they stopped shoveling their sidewalk half way…

I’ve long been a fan of the Botanic Garden located right near the Capitol building. These wind turbines just make it that much cooler. There’s even a computer monitor that shows you how much energy it is capturing though one of them was broken on Sunday… Still very cool though…

“Federal-style home tastefully enlarged to include four bedrooms, 3.5 baths, family room, master bedroom and au-pair suites, to meet needs of today’s lifestyle. Classic architectual details remain. Sited on a deep lot, provides space for a formal garden, garage, attached greenhouse & additional parking. Close to Eastern Market, Metro and the Capitol.”

I have to give props to the reader for finding this one. I don’t know if it is my love of books but this is one of my favorite house porn posts. I suppose parts of it are a bit too museum like for me but overall this one blew me away. What do you think of the home itself? It’s yours for $2,100,000.

I’m digging the living room here. Has anyone heard of the architect Waddy Butler Wood? If so has this architect done many other homes in DC? It’s yours for $949,900.
