I can’t believe I’ve never posted this sign before. I actually had never noticed that there was on old faded sign behind the “Big Bear”. Man, that wall looks unbelievably cool.

This is a super cool back balcony. Great details.

Well folks have been telling me about this park for ages and I always wondered, given all my walkabouts in Bloomingdale, why I never encountered it. Now I know why – it’s only accessible through an alley. I was lucky enough to stop at Big Bear for a coffee and there was a community yard sale being advertised with directions to Crispus Attucks Park. It’s located via the alley between 1st Street and North Captiol and V St and U St. And it is awesome!
I particularly liked the memory garden:

There is a nice bench:

And you get to gaze at this:

Beautiful! Check it out next time you’re wandering around Bloomingdale.

This condo is located at 19 Adams Street, NW:
Their Web site says:

Here’s another cool Bloomingdale rowhouse. I like the detailed trim.

I can’t remember if I’ve posted this before. I think I’d remember it but it looks pretty new to me. It is from the unit block of W Street, NW in Bloomingdale. I like the folks that put these right on the side of their row houses.

The following was written by PoP contributor Charles.
Farm stands reflect their owners. And so, if you met Bryan Kerney – possibly while fishing on the Bay or sipping something from a mason jar on a back porch – you’d guess as soon as you strode into the Mt. Pleasant or U Street markets that the stand with massive coolers filled with pork slabs and beef to the right, and fresh produce sprawling to the left – not arrayed like organic folk art, but heaped –was probably his.
Bryan looks like the antithesis of the earnest locavores you’ve seen espousing the importance of wormy organic corn or the wonders of kale. He looks like there’s something in his cup besides coffee and the party’s just getting started. Which is somewhat misleading: his meat is free range; his farm is transitioning to organic; and, if he gets started, he can bend your ear plenty about the beauty of a fresh picked heirloom tomato. Only, with Brian you always remember it’s not about the carbon footprint or evil agribusiness, it’s about how damn good the things taste. Continues after the jump. (more…)

Insanity on both fronts. A reader sends in word about the shooting at 1st and Florida, NW:
“Someone was shot in the ankle at 9:45 in the children’s park; in a display of good faith the mayors office was there by 10:30. No one was hurt seriously (because the cops said he would be ok) but it is awful that this happened when children and families were at the park enjoying themselves.
Also, a petition is out there to stop the Bloomingdale farmers market and there is a rebuttal petition of appreciation at Big Bear for the community to sign. Please, hope the community doesn’t ban the farmers market because it make the neighborhood feel more inclusive!!”
A very rough week here in DC. And why on earth would anyone want to shut down the Bloomingdale Farmer’s Market?

This is located off Rhode Island Ave. in Bloomingdale. I dig this corner lots. And of course I’m also a fan of fire escapes. Don’t you dig the fire escape?

Oh man this was a good weekend, I got a vestibule and a carriage house! Sweet. This one is from the Bloomingdale or Le Droit Park neighborhood, can’t remember exactly where I was. It is pretty sweet though, yeah?
