From a DCWater press release:

District Breaks Ground on Large-Scale Flood Relief for Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park
NE Boundary Neighborhood Protection Project to Come Online in Stages, Beginning Early 2014

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — To mitigate flooding and sewer backups in the Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park neighborhoods, Mayor Vincent C. Gray and DC Water today announced a major new infrastructure project at the site of the former McMillan Sand Filtration Plant. The Northeast Boundary Neighborhood Protection Project is a product of the Mayor’s Task Force on the Prevention of Flooding, and will be built in three phases between now and 2022.

Mayor Gray established the task force in late August and named City Administrator Allen Y. Lew and DC Water General Manager George S. Hawkins as co-chairs.

“I asked the Task Force two basic questions,” said Mayor Gray. “The first is why the long-term solution to this historic problem was still more than a decade away. The second is whether anything more could be done in the interim. This project answers both questions. I applaud the Task Force and DC Water for developing it, and I want the residents of the affected communities to know that relief is on the way. It will be meaningful, and it will come soon.”

Continues after the jump. (more…)

From an email:

The “Bubble and Squeak” is a traditional English meal made with a winter root vegetable hash, roasted brussels sprouts, and a pork sausage named for the sound of being roasted over the fire in the old English kitchen.

Our new winter menu is now out, and our Bubble and Squeak is delicious. We also have a beer braised short-rib with fresh stone ground polenta and Kabocha squash, and a beautiful scallop corn chowder.

Also, Reid’s Orchard hot mulled cider is back, and it will definitely warm you up with a little Bulleit bourbon and Clear Creek apple jack.

Back in June we learned that an “Italian-influenced American restaurant” was coming to the great space at the corner of 1st and Seaton St, NW. They’ve now applied for a liquor license under the name Red Hen:

“New neighborhood restaurant with Italian roots. Seating capacity of 78, Occupancy Load of 99, and Sidewalk Café with 46 seats.”

That’ll be a sweet sidewalk cafe:

And just down the street the recently opened Aroi Thai has also applied for a liquor license at 1832 1st St, NW:

Also nearby don’t forget the new spanish tapas Costa Brava has also applied for a liquor license across the street at 1837 1st Street, NW.

Hard to believe it was over two years ago when Big Bear had their difficulties getting a liquor license in Bloomingdale.
