“Dear PoP,

Each Friday there is a vegan chef at The Highlands preparing meals from the beta vegan menu. This campaign will last until the end of January. This is the anticipated date when all cooks have been trained to prepare vegan fare. Once this benchmark has been reached, The Highlands will offer vegan food during regular restaurant hours.”

Does $224,900 ($238 condo fee) sound reasonable for this 1bed/1bath condo?

Here are a couple of interesting ones from 16th St. Heights. I really like the style of the one above but I was also taken with the double wrap around porch below. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a wrap around porch on the second floor of a home before:

Back in Nov. ’09 I was horrified to see the the building that houses Good Wood for sale at 1428 U Street, NW. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the sign saying EJF Real Estate Services were moving in. Fortunately when I spoke to the owners of Good Wood, they said they weren’t going anywhere but did expect their rent to be raised a bit. EJF would be taking over the 2nd and 3rd floors after a fixing up the space. That is a relief and while I think this is good news for the short term, I’m nervous about the long term…

Esther in happier times

In other sad news, a reader sends in word about the closing of Esther’s Treasures located at 4722 14th Street, NW. She writes:

It’s been a while since we’ve looked at a 16th St. Heights home and this one certainly seems pretty interesting from the outside. Do you think $679,000 sounds reasonable for this 4 bed/3.5 bath?

“Dear PoP,

I live right near Highlands/former Mocha Hut (4706 14th Street, NW), and I’ve been there for brunch a few times (it’s been delightful – good food, nice neighborhood-y feel). I happened to catch the chef/proprietor and got to chat a little bit. He told me that a) their license was approved and they should be moving on that soon, and b) the bus barn is being developed into something that’s not a bus barn – he said he thought mixed use condos like the types that are in the Petworth/CH area. I think there was some question as to whether this was an unsubstantiated rumor? Even excluding the condo issue, that block is pretty cute, and seems prime to me for some more neighborhood restaurant/bar/retail action.”

Back in May we talked about Bus Barn rumors at 4615 14th St, NW. We learned more about this section of 14th St, NW in June.

Country style kitchen with granite, maple wood cabinets and stainless steel appliances. Private 2 car parking with garage door. What do you think of the reno? The kitchen? What exactly is a country style kitchen? Does $659,900 sound reasonable for this 4 bed/3.5 bath?
