Good news for From the Farmer fans – they’re back. Thanks to Michelle for sending:

“I’m writing to let you know that From the Farmer will be resuming regular delivery operations over the next week and your InKind credits will work as they did in the past – for both a la carte and subscription orders!

If your regular delivery day is Thursday or Friday we’ll ‘see’ you this week (5 days from now) and if your regular delivery day is Tuesday or Wednesday we’ll ‘see’ you the following week (week of 2/18)!

Our temporary pause in deliveries allowed us to focus ‘behind the scenes’ on the quality of our product, the selection of produce items in our store, and the consistency of our deliveries. (more…)

Thanks to all for passing on from, From the Farmer:

“Over eight years ago, we started From the Farmer out of a garage in Maryland. Since then, we’ve had the privilege of working with the very best people in the food industry. Our network of farmers and producers has brought a level of passion and attention to our service matched only by our own team of dedicated packing, delivery, and customer support staff.

In order to make sure we’re setup to fulfill our mission and promise to you for many years to come – we are temporarily suspending deliveries to find a sustainable and better way to continue to service you with the great products you have come to love. (more…)

Thanks to Bridgett and everyone else for sending the news about a Streets Market coming to the former Metro K grocery store that closed at the end of November.

Streets recently opened up a huge store in NoMa but I have a feeling this will be more like the one in Cleveland Park, which also replaced a beloved, old, grocery store. (more…)

Yesterday we learned about Union Kitchen Grocery’s opening date in Shaw and now we got some action in NoMa – Streets Market soft opens today. And it is huge. I went to a preview party for the residents of the building above the store on Wednesday night and it’s pretty dope.

In addition to a huge grocery store (more photos below) there is a also a huge bar with tvs and 2nd floor seating.

Check out the beer menu for the bar: (more…)

via Mayor Muriel Bowser

From the Mayor’s Office:

“[Yesterday], Mayor Bowser broke ground on Good Food Markets, delivering job opportunities and fresh food options to the Bellevue community in Ward 8. Through the Neighborhood Prosperity Fund, an initiative launched by Mayor Bowser, South Capitol Improvement LLC received an $880,000 grant to support the buildout for a grocer tenant as part of the 225,000 square-foot development that includes 195 units of affordable housing and 5,500 square-feet of community commercial space. “Dear PoPville,

Glenn’s Market on 20th Street was recently the target of a “visit” (a.k.a. undercover set up, a.k.a. sting) by ABRA investigators. A 17-year-old bought an alcoholic beverage to-go (they sell beer, wine, cider, etc. — lots of it locally sourced) and the cashier forgot to ask for his license/birthday.

The person in line right behind the 17-year-old was the ABRA enforcer. Glenn’s was fined $4,000 (!!!!) and forced to close their to-go sections until Sunday. You can still buy a beverage if you’re eating in, but nothing to-go.

Ed. Note: Holiday Hours are
12/26 – 12/28: 12pm – 8pm
12/29 – 12/30: 9am – 9pm
New Year’s Eve: 8am – 9pm
New Year’s Day: 12pm – 8pm

This is a REAL hit for a small merchant.

Yes, the cashier made a mistake and it’s an important regulation to honor for lots of reasons. As the sign says, they did the crime and they’re doing their time.

But the grocery store business is really tough and they make it on VERY small margins. (more…)
