This spot off 16th north of U Street was a former best spot for a morning cup of coffee. But this was the first time I’ve seen the aquatic plants blooming with a flower. Super cool.

“Dear PoP,
I’m an avid reader of your blog and a neighbor from Shepherd St. You may have noticed some beautiful gardens in public space around the intersection of 4th and Shepherd–a big one in the triangle park as well as some smaller areas around trees and in little patches of grass.
They are planted and maintained by a group of really sweet and hardworking older women who are out nearly every morning between 8:45 and 10:30 weeding, watering and adding tiny little gardens up and down the street. If they are interested, I’d love to see them and their hard work featured your blog–they are really doing something wonderful for the neighborhood.”
For sure this is super beautiful and their work is most definitely appreciated!

At first glance it may not look noteworthy. But if you look at the bottom of the photo there were two small signs. Turns out one was a poem:

And the other is a quote from Ladybird Johnson:

Super cool. And the flowers are right on as well. It is located on Champlain Street, NW in Adams Morgan.

And the area to the right is also well done. Best “curb” garden I’ve seen this year.

I’m a huge fan of lavender plants.
Also someone mentioned some nice corn growing on a front lawn. I saw the one below near Cardozo HS. I tried to plant some corn myself and sadly it’s only about ankle high…

This was the most insane vegetable garden I’ve ever seen in someone’s front yard. Actually that’s not true. There’s one on 13th Street near Cardozo that I have to take a photo of. But this one is pretty amazing too.

There were even more of these flowers than I could get into the picture. What are these flowers called – black eyed susies?
It is located at the corner of 16th and Florida, NW.

Two birds with one stone here. Super fresh.

This is from outside Columbia Heights Coffee on 11th Street. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen those curved bamboo plants, that you usually find in water filled vases with marbles in people’s bathrooms, planted in earth. I wonder if the bamboo will grow to be gigantic like regular bamboo?

This a great wild one chock full of flowers over nearly every square inch of the yard.
