And the winner is…First Time Computers! Believe it or not there was some manipulation in the voting process. I can’t believe people were trying to “stuff” the ballot box for a charity contest. Anyway, I think all the charities were worthy so obviously if you don’t want to contribute to First Time Computers please donate to the charity of your choice. But if you would like to donate to First Time Computers please send me an email with the amount you have donated so, as promised, I can match it up to $500. Here are the details for contributing from their Web site:

I would like to find a local charity to donate some money. Does anyone have any suggestions for local charities in the Petworth/Columbia Heights/Shaw/U St./Mt.Pleasant neighborhoods? When a number of suggestions have been submitted we will then vote on which one to donate to. Now here’s where you come in: I would like you to donate to the charity as well and I will match donations up to a total of $500. Hopefully that way, together we can donate a $1000 to a local charity. So which local charity would you like to nominate?

I wondered if you wouldn’t mind posting about a bike sale event on Saturday to benefit local community bike shops and organizations and a local community garden. I’m a volunteer at a small local bike shop called Phoenix Bikes. We focus on youth mentorship programs and providing inexpensive and reliable transportation to local folks. The whole place works on donated bikes and donated time. Anyway, the event on Saturday is at 7th St Garden from 10am-4pm.
Anyway! Here’s the pitch for the event:
Used Bike Sale – December 15th
Get the season’s best deals and support community-based, eco-initiatives. Road, Single Speed, Mountain, Cruiser, and Kids bikes will all be ready to ride home through the snow. FUNDRAISER THIS WEDS. at the Wonderland Ballroom (11th and Kenyon), starts around 9pm, but get there early so you can buy a CH Day T-Shirt for $20 (or rather, donate $20, get a free T-Shirt). We’ll have a band and then DJs (Flexx Matthews and Gavin Holland). Bring your loose change and friends!!
