“After going virtual in 2020, DC Central Kitchen’s iconic Capital Food Fight returns live and in person for a raucous night of fighting hunger on April 7th at The Anthem, presented by craigstable. Tickets are on sale at capitalfoodfight.org.

“We are thrilled to be finally returning to The Anthem and celebrating the 18th Capital Food Fight with our family of supporters this April. Our city’s people and restaurants have been through so much, and this year’s event will celebrate what we have accomplished and overcome together while looking toward a brighter future” says DC Central Kitchen CEO Mike Curtin. “Dear PoPville,

A really nice woman who works at the Adams Morgan 7-11 fell victim to a car-jacking Monday night/Tuesday morning.

Her car was parked in front of the store at 2am. The car jackers didn’t know how to drive stick, abandoned the car and peeled out in the getaway car, not before side swiping her car, mangling the wheel well, shattering her window and rendering her car inoperable. As she told me she is “underinsured.” Meaning she’s paying for liability only.

Impossible to share insurance information with a car-jacker. (more…)

“We need your help to continue on with our creative education and project-based learning activities. Most of the students who attend our school come from low-income homes, foster homes, or group homes.

We also have a large number of special education students, so hands-on materials are very important for our students’ growth.

They learn best with hands-on materials and experiences which can be difficult because materials cost money. Our school relies on finding funds from wonderful people to help us purchase the supplies needed in our classrooms.

“My name is Elizabeth Pittinger and I am the daughter in-law of the late Walter Allen Pittinger-Dunham of Washington DC. Allen was a Social Worker, a clinical director, a private therapist and a very kind and loving man who always put others needs first. He died unexpectedly on January 4th, 2022 and leaves behind his husband, partner, and best friend Phillip Pittinger-Dunham. They were married in Washington DC the first day it was legalized and have spent over 21 years together. Allen also served as Phillip’s caretaker due to his disability and he took great pride in being able to care for him both physically and emotionally.

Phillip has had his world turn upside down and needs your help. Not only did he lose his life partner but he is now going to lose their home. He physically does not have the ability to pack up 21 years on his own and needs financial help with Allen’s funeral expenses, debt, and packing and moving costs. He simply cannot do this without a lot of assistance. (more…)
