Thanks to all who passed on these heartbreaking fundraisers:

Support the Thomas Family:

“Today my family suffered a double tragedy. My children and grandchildren suffered a house fire, and all of their belongings were destroyed. The most devastating and painful was one of my granddaughters did not survive the fire. Let our Angel rest in Heaven.

It is difficult to know exactly where to start rebuilding. Everything was lost in the fire. My family only had the clothes worn when they escaped the fire. They will have to relocate to temporary housing, and we will have to replace everything.

Thank you for your prayers, thoughts, generosity, and donations for my family during their long journey to rebuild. Please, keep us lifted in prayer.”

Support for the Hart Family:

“On September 13th, 5 year old Allison Hart was in a tragic fatal accident. We as her family, friends and community want to come together to best support the Hart family in any way we can. (more…)

Thanks to Meghan for sending: “I saw the coverage of the mass shooting Labor day weekend, which killed three people. One of the victims killed was 31-year-old Donnetta Dyson. Dyson worked in the OR as a patient services assistant at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She leaves behind her son and daughter. Yesterday, this GoFundMe fundraiser was created to help Dyson’s children accomplish her dream for them to go to college.”

The GoFundMe says:

“A Mother’s love is incomparable, long-suffering, enduring, unconditional, and everlasting… And unfortunately gone way too soon. Donnetta Dyson was fatally shot and killed during a senseless and random act of violence on September 4, 2021, leaving behind her young children, Henry and Queen. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Neighbors on Kansas Ave in Petworth suffered a devastating house fire over the long weekend. All were safely evacuated but they lost everything and are now displaced. The smoke was terrifying. The people of Petworth will certainly rally to support them but I thought it may help to get the word out if anyone else is willing to pitch in.”

From GoFundMe:

“As many have heard, yesterday my mother’s home that she shared with my 91 year old grandfather caught fire last night and was deemed condemned. The house has been in our family for nearly 60 years. Three generations and countless others have resided in the house over that time. It was recently renovating to accommodate my aging grandfather’s needs and wishes to remain in our family home. “Dear PoPville,

I would LOVE to add some new books to the shelves when kids come back to school – I can’t think of a better way to welcome them back to their library! Daily reading for pleasure and information is such a critical part of literacy development, and the best way for me to help my students become passionate, proficient readers is stock the school library with books they just can’t put down.

I’ve purchased what I can afford out of pocket, but there are so many new, amazing, diverse books that I created a DonorsChoose project in case anyone wants to help me add to the library shelves. Until August 26th, DonorsChoose will double donations up to $50 with the code LIFTOFF.”

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to share a list of resources that KAMA DC, a volunteer-run non-profit, has compiled which lists different ways people can support Afghans arriving in the DMV area.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yvw3A2r1vT5imT9V9TShQoeN6mOGP5PZ3bbbI_OrxWA/edit?usp=sharing

We’ve listed organizations and resources by different ways of helping them – donating money, donating things, volunteering, or leveraging networks.

We’re updating this Google doc and welcome any tips about other things we should add.”
