From a press release:
“Booking It for Young Authors: 826DC’s Half-Half-Half-Half-Half Marathon
The District’s shortest race–0.826 of a mile, to be exact–returns on June 4th. Everyone’s invited to briefly book it for youth literacy at 826DC’s second Half-Half-Half-Half-Half Marathon, an offbeat fundraiser from a unique DC nonprofit.
826DC supports local students ages 6-18 with their writing skills and helps teachers inspire their students to write. The Half-Half-Half-Half-Half Marathon will help fund 826DC’s 100% free writing workshops, homework help, and publishing opportunities at their Columbia Heights writing center (which students enter through a not-so-secret secret door in 826DC’s magic shop storefront) and in learning spaces across the city. “Dear PoPville,
I’m writing on behalf of Capitol City Robotics (CCR), a 501(c) non-profit that provides underrepresented students access and education to STEM principles through robotics engineering and computer science. Its vision is to create a future where science and robotics careers are a place for everyone, regardless of gender, race, or economic background. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
As I head towards one-month at the border, I requested Dan post one more time as I’m seeing changes at the border. The influx of refugees has declined somewhat, and organizations are on the counteroffensive; that is, as resources are available, an increased amount of medical supplies and food items are being delivered as far as the fighting front. Organizations I’ve seen doing the impossible; World Central Kitchen (the sole provider of hot food from the border to the front); paracrew.org (with whom I’m involved, taking medical supplies and food items to hard-hit cities and front lines via a vast network of personal cars); and the ifaw.org, the sole at-the-border pet responsibility entity (rescuing, taking-in and transferring pets). “Dear PoPville,
I am working with some friends in Tblisi, Georgia who have Ukrainian roots to get medical supplies directly to hospitals in Zhytomyr. It is purely a grass-roots, community-based effort. The GoFundMe campaign, which includes the details on what we are trying to do, is here.”

“Dear PoPville,
My name is David Morar and besides other things, I’m a comedian in DC. I’m also Romanian, so the Russian invasion of Ukraine is quite literally pretty close to home. With another comedian originally from the Balkans (Ivi Demi from Albania), we put together a comedy show to benefit Ukrainians, next Thursday at the Ukrainian-owned bakery D Light in Adams Morgan. DC Brau’s Brandon Skall collects a donation from an elderly participant
From an email:
“The neighborhood pub (116 Rhode Island Ave, NW) will host St. Baldrick’s Day on Sunday, March 13. DC Brau’s Brandon Skall will MC the head-shaving event, which raises funds for St. Baldrick’s foundation – an organization dedicated to pediatric cancer research. If you’re not familiar with the annual tradition, Boundary Stone hosts individuals and teams from local breweries and restaurants who volunteer for head (and beard!) shaves during the auction-style event. The Barbers of Hell’s Bottom will once again be volunteering their time to administer the head shaves. There will be a Charity Beer Garden on the patio, where 100% of beer sales will be donated to St. Baldrick’s. Plus, all sales of any Tito’s drink in the pub will go to the organization. Boundary Stone has raised more than $500k for the nonprofit since 2014.
Then on March 17, Executive Chef David Bacot will have three St. Patrick’s Day specials on the menu for the holiday: (more…)
