“Dear PoP,

Do you know anything about the arts and strawberry festival at St. Paul’s on Saturday? Saw the banner the other day, but wasn’t sure what it was all about. Their website doesn’t have any info besides the day and time.”

From St. Paul’s Rock Creek Parish:

Saturday, June 25 from 4pm to 7pm St. Paul’s Rock Creek Parish will be hosting
our annual Strawberry Festival. For years, we have hosted this event in hopes
of bringing together the community around our wonderful historic eighty-acre
campus. We will have strawberries for sale, games for children and adults, ice
cream, hayrides, a cemetery scavenger hunt, and much much more.

Join us as we celebrate a beautiful spring day with our wonderful community!

St. Paul’s is located off of Rock Creek Church Road, NW and Allison Street, directly across
from the Soldiers Home.

Every year people ask about the legality of fireworks in DC so I just wanted to share a note from DCRA:

As the July 4th holiday approaches get all the required permits, licenses, and inspections for you to legally set up a fireworks stand and sell fireworks. Use or the possession of illegal fireworks in the District of Columbia could face fines and penalties of up to $2,000 and/or arrest for further prosecution.

Permits, certificate of occupancy, FEMS application, and Basic business license are required to legally operate a fireworks sales stand in the District of Columbia.

The deadline for submitting applications to DCRA is June 20, 2011

Ra Ra Riot

The following was written by PoPville reader, Gabby who won the tickets to the festival.

Sweetlife Festival 2011 was an excellent fusion of cross-genre musical performances, fresh food, and great people! As I made my way through DC to meet up with my oh so lucky concert going guest du jour at his house on U street, I saw the sidewalks filled with groups lugging coolers and sporting their finest music fest worthy threads towards the different shuttle pick up locations throughout NW. Note to self for next year, sign up for the party buses!

As this was my first time at the Merriweather Post Pavillion, I was pleasantly surprised by easy layout of the venue tucked away in a beautifully green space in Maryland. We made some stops at the various tailgates going on in the parking lot before making our way towards the stage. Without hesitation I made a bee-line to the pit for one of the acts I was most excited for, Theophilus London!

Continues after the jump. (more…)
