This is one of the cooler door knobs I’ve ever seen.
Ed. Note: If you’re wondering it does feel a bit strange for me to write a sentence like that. But seriously – check out the details and the two key holes…

I’m also really digging the vine growing around the arch.

I’ve never seen one of this style with glass like this. I wonder if it was originally solid wood and the glass was added later?

This alley door from near H St, NE always makes me stop in my tracks. One day I’ll find out the story behind the musical instruments:

One of my favorites from Capitol Hill. Very detailed stained glass:

Some of the best in town are in Logan Circle.

Another great old one – with an unusual door knob:

Every aspect is awesome on this one. I would love to know what year it’s from. Any guesses? Note the unusual door knob.

I promise this is my last Paris post but I had to share this building done by Jules Lavirotte in 1901. I could barely tear myself away from it.
You dig the style?

More photos after the jump. (more…)

“Dear PoP,
I love everything about the door on the red house; the lintel, the sconces, the transom, and woodwork. While each component has its own charm, this really is a door of the gestalt. The pieces are all of different styles, but their comparable levels of detail and craftsmanship unify them into ingressic resplendence.”
Well I had to look up a couple of definitions of words in the email. And even though I have no idea what ingressic means, I still agree. This is pretty sweet.
