Wow, this was a crazy sight. As I was walking over to the Red Derby I noticed that there was an entire section of rowhomes being built behind the huge project above the metro. Anyone know the story here? Is this a separate developer? You think this will be a desirable place to buy a new rowhome? I wonder if they’ll divide the rowhomes into separate units or sell the rowhomes as individual homes. What do you think the prices’ll be?

I thought this was a pretty wild sign in the window of the shop for sale on U Street near 9th. The scene looks ordinary but if you notice there is a little drawing in the center of the window just above the ReMax for sale sign. (Close up of the drawing after the jump.) It’s a pretty cool drawing of a nice dining area. However, I do find it hard to believe that someone would be looking to purchase property and see a drawing and have a eureka moment of – hey maybe a nice little restaurant would work great here… It is a pretty cool drawing though. Would be awesome if it became a reality. Drawing after the jump. (more…)

Bill Crandall over from Petworth News has some great photos of the Park Place Topping Out Ceremony. Crandall say “Topping out” means the concrete superstructure of a building is finished.

Crandall also reports that Councilmember Graham has confirmed that a CVS will be going in across the street in the empty lot where they used to have the old Farmers Market. This confirms my Scandalous Gossip post back in April. Sweet, my rumor to truth ratio has increased to 94% accurate. Eh, I can’t pretend to be excited by a CVS, again certainly better than a vacant lot but at the end of the day it’s a CVS.

Thanks to a reader for sending me an update on what the 2200 block of 14th and W will look like. As usual DC MUD has the skinny including renderings.

They say: “Five buildings in the 2200 block of 14th Street (2203, 2205, 2207, 2209, 2211) were approved for demolition by the DC Historic Planning Board as part of the new Anthony Bowen YMCA and 14W project by DC-based developer Perseus Realty, LLC and YMCA of Metropolitan Washington.”

That’s going to be almost DC USA wild when it is completed.

Washingtonian has a nice feature on the Privado Condos. There are some very cool graphic renderings of the space. The condos will be located at 1443 Chapin Street, NW and there are 16 units that will range from $374,900 to $989,000.

Cool graphics but “Privado” could be the worst name I’ve ever heard for condos. Sometimes people think when you have an ‘o’ at the end of a word it must sound exotic or exclusive. What do you think is that the worst name for a condo or have you seen worse? Maybe this will be a good contest, who can find the worst name for a condo in DC?

Thanks to a reader for sending this link from DCMUD about the Howard Town Center deal. An excerpt:

“This exchange means Howard will receive the former Bond Bread Building at 2146 Georgia Avenue, NW. The lot provides redevelopment space for the long-planned Howard Town Center: 300+ residence units, 70,000+ s.f. of commercial property, a supermarket, and parking. The District will receive in exchange, the site at Florida and Sherman Avenues, and will solicit bids for a mixed-use project to include at least 300 housing units (30 percent affordable).”

So is this going to be the catalyst for some exciting development on lower Georgia Ave.?

Thanks again to an eagle eyed reader who spotted this petition sign in the window. I checked out this place located at 1359 U Street next to the old State of the Union and it is set to have a hearing July 2nd. The sign says the trade name is Patty Boom Boom and it will be a tavern that serves Jamaican patties and have DJs, live reggae bands and dancing, unfortunately with a cover charge. So what’s a Jamaican patty? Ed. note: Jamaican fatty/blunt jokes are officially banned. I’m pretty psyched about the prospect of live reggae bands. You?
