Basically they report that Yoga and a dance studio will go on third floor, dinner commedy theater on second floor, and perhaps coolest, a Diner/Tryst combo spot on the first floor. Read the full story here. Sounds awesome! How sweet will Diner/Tryst combo be? I suspect it will get very, very crowded. Sound good to you guys?
Development

Starting to fill in a bit. Can’t wait until we learn about the first floor retail.
After the jump check out a cool photo of how the crane is in the middle of the building. How will they remove it? (more…)

Seems to be a little sparse on the windows, yeah? Do you think it could use another row of windows? Although the doorway looks like it may turn out pretty cool. Closeup of the doorway after the jump. (more…)
Did anyone see the Post article on all the restaurants coming to H Street, NE? We once discussed this a long time ago but I think it may be a bit more apropos now. Is development on H Street, NE a zero sum game vis a vis development of Georgia Avenue? I ask this because it seems the primary force behind H Street’s development is Joe Englert. Mr. Englert was/is also a minority owner in Temperance Hall. Now it seems like Mr. Englert has abandoned Georgia Ave. development to focus on H Street. I’m not saying there aren’t other investors or visionaries out there but it seems tougher to realize without him. I always joke with my attorney who lives near H Street that Georgia Ave will have more restaurants than H Street. But I’m beginning to doubt myself. So what do you guys think – does development on H Street take away money and investors from Georgia Ave.?
Ed. Note: Do you the readers have any interest in my covering H Street, NE development?
Thanks to a reader for sending me this link from DC Metrocentric. DC Metrocentric reports:
“The District, in collaboration with the residents of Park Morton and the Park View and Petworth community, initiated a process to plan for and implement the revitalization of the Park Morton neighborhood, which is bound by Georgia Avenue on the west, Warder Street on the east, Lamont Street on the south and Park Road on the north.
Consistent with the New Communities Initiative, the goal of this effort is to transform the public housing property and its immediate neighborhood into a mixed-income, mixed-use community. In this new community, residents will have access to high-quality housing options affordable at all income levels and to the human services necessary to help prepare them to take advantage of the new economic opportunities and changes that are coming their way.”
Wow, this sounds awesome. It seems like it would certainly contribute to Georgia Ave’s revival. Has anyone else heard about this project?
A number of readers have written asking about the “construction/demo work going on in the building between Sweet Mango’s and the Faith Deliverance Center”. So who’s got the scoop? Any idea what it will be?

I learned that they are doing an environmentally friendly deconstruction. I’m told that they “are currently “deconstructing” the building as opposed to demolishing it, with the intent to recycle, reuse, or otherwise divert the debris from the landfill.” Pretty cool. It also means we are one step closer to John Andrade’s new bar – Meridian Pint. Sweet.

For the expats. This picture was taken all the way up by Upshur. I really had no idea these condos were going to be, seemingly, nearly as big as the condos above the Petworth metro. This is also the building where the YES! Organic market will be located. Nice.

Thanks to a reader for telling me that one of the final spots below the Union Row Condos on 14th Street has been filled. You can see from the permit in the photo above it’s going to be a CVS. Not many people get too excited about CVS but there really isn’t another good option on 14th Street and W except for the Right Aid at 13th and U. So for those that live in that area how do you feel about a CVS coming?
The reader was also kind of enough to send the ANC1B Meeting notes which gives an update on the other retail going below the Union Row Condos. The new restaurant Eatonville is discussed with this interesting tidbit emerging: “The restaurant will have spoken word, folklore, and storytelling as well as background music and art from both local and global artisans.” The YES! Organic market is also discussed with hopes that will open it’s 14th Street location by August and it seems this location will be granted a liquor license. Ed. note: Let’s hope the Petworth location has similar success getting a liquor license. Excerpt of meeting notes after the jump. (more…)

Thanks to a curious reader for sending the update. I still can’t remember what’s going in but it’s good to know it’ll being coming down soon. I look forward to learning what stores will be going in after construction is complete.
