Do you know anything the Corner Market on Florida at Seaton Pl? You last posted in 2008. It’s been closed since we moved in nearby a year ago, but my girlfriend recently saw what looked like a fancy reception/dinner party going on inside.
We walk by almost every day and wish it was just that- a corner market or Dupont Market-ish place.
I stopped by on Sunday and ran into the new owner who told me it will be home to District Design, an architecture and design firm.
I hear that an art gallery and studio is coming to 1015 U St, NW home to the former Eaton’s Barber Shop. It’s been vacant for a bit so I really hope this is accurate. Plus it would be great to have a new art gallery!
1015 U Street is located right next door to the Lovely Frozen Yogurt spot which looks very close to opening.
A couple of weeks ago I posted about the Floridano food truck opening a brick and mortar restaurant in the former Brown’s Caribbean Bakery at 3301 Georgia Ave, NW. Some readers were saddened by the closing of Brown’s but I had thought they reopened further up north on Georgia Ave. Turns out I was off by a letter. There is a Crown Caribbean Bakery located at 5409 Georgia Ave, NW. So for those who are craving some Caribbean pastries – this will probably scratch that itch.
I’ve been wondering for a while who’ll be moving into the space beneath Chipotle at 1629 Connecticut Ave, NW. I finally saw some workers inside who said it will be a new massage place called Health Magic.
Sweet Diablo, claiming to have the best chocolate cake in the world, is coming to 19th and M St, NW in the small retail space just west of the Jos A Bank on M Street in southern Dupont. We’ll def. be back for a proper judging to test their claim. Stay tuned!
660 Pennsylvania Avenue SE
In late Feb. we learned that Sapore Oil and Vinegar was coming to the old Quiznos space at 660 Pennsylvania Avenue SE by Eastern Market. I took a sneak peek yesterday and lovers of olive oil are going to be in heaven.
They had 18 olive oils and 15 vinegars:

DC’s first fresh oil and vinegar specialty store opens March 18 at 660 Pennsylvania Avenue SE in Capitol Hill’s Eastern Market neighborhood. Sapore, Italian for “taste” or “flavor”, will feature 30 types of single varietal and flavor infused extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars plus gourmet pastas, olives, sea salts, spice blends, accessories and cookbooks. According to owner Renee Farr, Sapore is a boutique culinary retail store designed to capture the growing trend of customers wanting pure authentic foods that are healthy.
She says that true extra virgin olive oil, fresh from pressing, has a flavorful taste that grocery store oils do not. Sapore’s oils will be available in traditional varietals and flavor infused selections along with white and dark balsamic vinegars. “Sapore will round out the oils and vinegars with complementary gourmet products like sea salts and handcrafted spice blends.” she said.
Customers will be able to sample every oil and vinegar. Displayed in Italian-made stainless steel containers, called fustis, the oils and vinegars encircle the 950 square-foot store. Farr has developed recipe cards that detail creative uses for the international

Dear PoPville,
So I got a chance to check out 3 Little Pigs at their Petworth location (5111 Georgia Ave, NW) on opening day and it was adorably CUTE! They offered barbeque chiccarones (pork rinds) for those of us waiting to be served. The Executive Chef from Rosa Mexicana was standing next to me and we chatted away about what to get. Another guy was buying the proscuitto being cut by the owner in the picture. Based on their recommendation, I bought duck confit for dinner and when I got it home and cooked it the response from my fiance was “I want to marry the guy who sold you this duck!” If that’s not a huge endorsement I don’t know what else is. I’m so happy they’ve come to my neighborhood and I will be getting my fresh meat there every weekend.
A Charles Tyrwhitt clothing store is coming to one of the retail spaces at the corner of Connecticut and K St, NW. The entrance is on the Connecticut Ave side. Anyone ever hear of Charles Tyrwhitt?

Well, they’re actually off to a rough start. Looks like the strong winds last week blew off some of the letters from their sign and their Website domain has expired. Nevertheless, looks like it’s going to be another clothing store and they hope to open sometime in March. Thanks to a reader for sending the heads up. Carbon closed at the end of Dec. 2011 at 2643 Connecticut Ave, NW.
