“Dear PoPville,
I am very concerned to see that places are boarding up on 14th street [I live a block off and am starting to feel unsafe for the first time in my 12 yrs on the block — first seems only to be large /natl chains, but now local spots too — Taqueria Nacional and Bresca.”

Another reader writes in noting The Line hotel in Adams Morgan has boarding up their lower level too: (more…)

Let’s Do This!! Abigail asks:
“Do you have a list of DC local businesses with online platforms? Would love to support them! #StayHomeShopLocal”
Nick writes: “I was wondering if you considered making a posting about local businesses that are currently open for virtual business/consultations during the crisis? For example my parents business Just Paper and Tea is a small stationery shop in Georgetown that does wedding invitations. They have posted on their website that they’re open for virtual zoom meetings.”
If anyone knows of other local businesses open please let us know!

Thanks to Jay, Emily, Kevin and other for sending word (and photos) about the latest business to board up.

Thanks to Jay for sending another addition to businesses that are boarding up their windows.
Has anybody seen others besides Sephora (multiple), J.Crew (14th Street) and Loro Piana (City Center)?

Not that my brain can focus for more than three seconds these days but for those who are more disciplined than I, this is great! Capitol Hill Books tweeted the other day:
“So. The deal is like this: tell us how much you want to spend. What authors/genres you like, and we’ll send you our picks and a price. Email [email protected]”

Yesterday we were surprised to see the Sephora boarded up in Eatern Market. Sephora has also boarded up stores in Georgetown and Logan Circle and readers have told me at least two other locations were boarded up in Chicago and Brooklyn.

Thanks to Lisa for sending the first photo above of Loro Piana boarded up in City Center. And thanks to all who sent word about J. Crew getting boarded up in Logan Circle.

Yikes. Thanks to Brett for sending: “they are literally boarding up Sephora in Eastern Market as if a hurricane is coming.”

Thanks to Leo for sending last night: “MPD guarding a delivery of supplies to CVS in Upper NW DC. At least three cops – sad reflection on how people are behaving. Looked like some prescription medications but mostly your standard CVS supplies from Motrin to soap to razors. People were patiently and politely waiting for the supplies to be unloaded/stocked, but I heard the delivery guy telling the cops that last time, people were grabbing goods straight from the truck.”

Thanks to Alison for sending earlier this morning from Target: “currently cacooning the cafe area in plastic wrap.”
But in happier news: (more…)
