This is one of the first places I ever ate at in Columbia Heights, I think in late 2002. Insanely I haven’t been back since for no good reason because I remember leaving full and happy. And I just noticed they just got a bit of a facelift and was wondering if there were any fans out there? They are located at 3411 14th St NW just north of Newton.

How do they compare to Pupuseria San Miguel in Mt. Pleasant?

It’s funny I was just having a conversation with a friend lamenting the fact that H St, NE was missing good pizza options (though I do recognize that Liberty Tree has some). I’m talking a place that specializes in pizza. Their liquor license application says:

“New Restaurant with pizza, appetizers, salads, and sandwiches. No entertainment. Seating capacity is 48. Total occupancy load is 48. Summer Garden with 16 seats”

Sounds promising to me. Anyone know if they are affiliated with the folks on Wisconsin Ave with the sweet sign? That Angelico’s has locations in Glover Park, Mt. Pleasant, U St, NW, and elsewhere. But again, I’m not sure this is the same folks. If it’s not the same folks I wonder if they’ll be some naming/trademark issues?

They’ll open at 1421 H St, NE not far from the Argonaut. And I’ll be sure to sample the goods when they open to see if the H Street pizza vacuum has been filled.

“Dear PoP,

Where can you find some of the best local comedians practicing their craft for free? Ras Restaurant in the Georgia/Petworth area! The event is hosted by local comic Wayne Manigo, host of ‘Bellylaughs in Bethesda’.

Several comics from the DC/MD/VA will perform some of their best work and work out new material. There is no cost to attend, so please come out and support local comedy!”

The events will take place on Tuesdays from 8-10pm.

Ras Restaurant is located at 4809 Georgia Ave, NW.

A couple of weeks ago we learned that a new Ethiopian restaurant had opened up at 3521 14th St, NW in the old Catti Mexican Restaurant space. Early reports are very positive. I was happy to see that they’ve recently applied for a liquor license. The space is small and modest (Seating capacity is 48) but I’ve found that places like this can have the best food.

Palena recently reopened at 3529 Connecticut Avenue, NW after expanding into the old Magruder’s grocery space next door. You can see their menus here. The space looks great and stay tuned for the Market to open in a few more weeks.

We last judged Palena back in Dec. ’08.

“Dear PoP,

Little India in Woodley park is now an organic italian restaurant. is it run by the same people? seems like it switched overnight.”

Yeah, I happened to snap some photos but just assumed is was run by new people. Looks like there’s been a bit of restaurant juggling going on in Woodley Park. Hot N Juicy Crawfish is coming into the old Trattoria Italiana space but Cafe Paradiso has been completely renovated and reopened.

Anyone happen to check out the newest Italian offering in Woodley located at 2623 Connecticut Ave NW? Here’s a taste of the best from their menu:

Back in September we learned that Tsunami Lounge would be opening above Thai Tanic at 1326 14th St, NW. I feel stopped in to take some photos and the place turned out quite nice. Anyone sample the sushi yet?

The Point Chaud downtown location will open up at 1012 14th St, NW (between K and L). Readers had noted a coming soon sign since this summer but it now looks very close to opening (see photo above). I’m guessing this will be a very popular lunch spot soon. Point Chaud is of course the very popular crepe spot that opened in Logan Circle at at 1734 14th Street, NW back in June (see photo below).
