“Dear PoPville,

While I miss their beat-up old sign a bit at the corner of Georgia & Quincy — the one with the words “Fried” still faintly visible despite their efforts to scrape it off — the new one’s pretty nice and still has that super-happy chicken. Now if only they were open after work instead of just breakfast and lunch…”

Eat Chicken is located at the corner of Georgia and Quincy St, NW across from the Petworth metro.

So what is the PL in the photo above? Chicken place? The new logo is pretty sweet:

Below is what it looked like in June ’08.

“Dear PoPville,

Have you heard anything about when Bethesda Bagel is going to open in DuPont? The sign out front still says opening in September 2011, but it’s almost Halloween and there are still no delicious bagels.”

Back in May ’11 I shared the good word that Bethesda Bagels would be opening in the recently closed Johnny Rockets space at 1718 Connecticut Ave. NW in north Dupont. I emailed the owners for an update and they said they’d just completed interviews and hiring and will be open for business in 3-4 weeks. Nice!

“Dear PoPville,

My family is coming to town for Thanksgiving. As I live with roommates who aren’t leaving town for the holiday, I was hoping to take them out for Thanksgiving dinner. I was wondering if there were any recommendations from you or your readers that might point me in the right direction…”

Yesterday I got a press release from J & G Steakhouse (515 15th Street NW) about their Thanksgiving menu:

Thanksgiving Menu – J&G Restaurant

Anyone else have recommendations for going out for a Thanksgiving dinner?

The first Juice Truck in DC, Juice Revolution, is launching Oct. 28th. The owner writes in an email:

“It will be the first Juice Truck in DC, and one of only a handful in the nation, to juice fresh, organic and mostly local vegetables and fruits right on the truck. I hope to serve vegans, vegetarians, and all those folks looking for a healthy treat they can feel great about.”

Their Web site says:

“Juice Revolution is a food truck juicing up fresh vegetable and fruit juices for the people of the D.C. area. We are passionate about health! Our truck is driving a movement to offer nutritious and delicious options to our community. The health benefits of drinking our fresh, un-bottled (aka, Live!) juice are pretty awesome.

We strive to provide the highest quality product, using local produce in season, and organic when possible. Our juices are squeezed to order to maintain the freshness and vitality of the juice. If you haven’t tasted a fresh juice before, prepare to be amazed at how much better it tastes than the pasteurized juices you’ve been drinking until now.”

You can find them on twitter here.

Along the lines of the famous Yogi Berra quote: “Nobody goes there anymore it’s too crowded” – I was talking to a friend about Estadio (1520 14th Street, NW in Logan) and he said none of his friends go there because it’s too crowded and they don’t take reservations. So I guess first I should ask – are you noticing many new restaurants that also don’t take reservations? What other popular restaurants don’t take reservations? Do you like the idea of no reservations or do you think restaurants should take them?

“Dear PoPville,

I live in Columbia Heights and am throwing a 30th birthday party for my SO in our home. I haven’t lived in DC very long, and I was wondering if you or your readers had any suggestions about restaurants or other places that offer good catering options for a house party of 20 – 25. Veg friendly suggestions are great.”

Back in Aug. ’10 we had learned that Singapore Bistro closed at 1134 19th St, NW (next to Science Club.) It’s been vacant ever since but earlier this week I noticed renovations going on. The workers on the scene say that a new Thai restaurant will be opening in the space. It looks like a major renovation is going on so we are probably a few months away from any opening. Of course, we’ll revisit when they do.

Think a Thai restaurant will do well here?

Please keep in mind this only scuttlebutt nothing has been confirmed yet. Back in Aug. ’11 Pizza Hut closed at 1769 Columbia Rd, NW. A reader sends intriguing word that a Ledo Pizza could be moving into the space. You can see Ledo’s menu here. Given the recent addition of Mellow Mushroom and all the other pizza options in Adams Morgan – do you think a Ledo Pizza would do well here?
