The eagerly anticipated DC Reynolds soft opened last night at 3628 Georgia Ave, NW, a couple blocks south of the Petworth metro. As expected the back patio is ridiculously awesome:

After the jump have a look at the inside including the soft opening menu (more…)

876 Cafe will be located at 4221 Connecticut Ave, NW. Looks like they’ll have a nice outdoor dining patio as well.

Looks like things are picking up for Van Ness, as Sushi Para also recently opened up two storefronts away in the former Taco Bell space.

A reader sends an email:
“Rasika West End is now taking reservations on open table for their March 30th opening!”
Back in Feb. 2011 we learned that Rasika West End would be opening at 1177 22nd St. NW.
The original Rasika is located at 633 D Street, NW.

From a press release:
“Winter of 2012, restaurateurs and chefs Ari Gejdenson (AcquaAl 2) and Erik Yang (Toki Underground) will open a new restaurant in Washington D.C. helmed by Chef Johnny Spero (Komi and Townhouse) under the name of SŪNA. The food will offer Spero’s unique perspective on modern progressive cuisine reflecting both his professional and personal experiences. SŪNA’s menu will be based on sustainability, a conscious effort in regards to sourcing, supporting local farms, sustainability, and what is available regionally and by season.”
Toki chef Erik Yang revealed the space will be in Eastern Market but didn’t reveal an exact location. So I have a couple guesses for where they may look – the old BaBay space at 633 Pennsylvania Ave, SE or the old Village Gallery at 705 North Carolina Ave, SE. I don’t know if I’d call BaBay as Eastern Market but it has the advantage of already having a kitchen. The old Village Gallery space would need a complete build out but it is right outside Eastern Market. You have any guesses of where the new restaurant may be located?
Stay tuned.

Free soda alert:
We’ve rolled out Puck’s Soda at all 4 Taylor Gourmet locations!
“You wouldn’t find any artificial color or flavor in our products and Puck’s utilizes an unparalleled standard of sanitation that allows us to omit artificial preservatives. The granulated bagged cane sugar that we use as our sweetener lends itself to the very small vats in which our syrup is batched. This great effort is rewarded by the true and deep natural flavor
of our finished products, the hallmark of our endeavors throughout the years.”To celebrate our newest beverage we’re offering “FREE PUCK’S” on Wednesday March 21st!
Purchase any hoagie or salad and enjoy an ice cold Puck’s on us.
In DC you can find Taylor’s at 1116 H St, NE; 485 K St, NW; and 1908 14th St, NW.

At long last a permit has gone up at the old Dutchess & The Queen space at 2102 18th St, NW next to Meeps in Adams Morgan. The permit says a restaurant is coming:

Word on the street says it will be a wine bar. Stay tuned.

Dear PoPville,
Now that spring is upon us, restaurants throughout DC are opening up their sidewalk seating. I’m all for outdoor eating (and seating), but it has to be set up in a rational way.
Presumably the restaurants have obtained permits to use X square feet of sidewalk space for outdoor seating. But i have a feeling these outdoor seating areas quickly become larger than authorized, or are configured in ways that block the entire sidewalk. For me, it’s a minor inconvenience to have to slow my pace and squeeze through a single file line to get through the sliver of open sidewalk that remains, along with other pedestrians. But for someone in a wheelchair, the scenario in the attached pic would mean crossing the street to continue. What is the cleaning lady pushing the rolling cart going to do? In fact, the guy in the blue shirt is actually just a pedestrian, not a restaurant customer. He walked straight through this table config at America Eats Tavern. What’s the best way to officially voice concern about some of these out of control outdoor seating areas?

For those who like the vision of All Souls neighborhood bar and restaurant hoping to come to the vacant space at 725 T St, NW, you can show your support this Wed. The folks at All Souls are trying to be good neighbors and have made many concessions including removing the outdoor patio and agreeing not to open until 5pm during the week.
If your schedule is flexible and you think All Souls will be a great addition to the neighborhood you can show your support:
All Souls protest hearing, Wednesday March 21st at 4pm. Located in the Reeves Building at 2000 14th St. (corner of 14th and U St), fourth floor.

“Dear PoP,
Any idea when the new restaurant, La Forchetta, in AU Park is opening? I walked by this weekend and it looks almost done.”
I went to snap some photos on Sunday and a guy out front told me they would be opening April 2nd. He also said they were finalizing the menu and it should be complete later this week. Late last month we learned that Roberto Donna would be the chef of La Forchetta coming to 3201 New Mexico Avenue, NW (in the same complex as Chef Geoff’s.) The paper has also come off most of the windows:
