I’m seeing a few of these signs popping up around Columbia Heights just east of 11th Street. Yet prices still seem to be fairly high. So explain to me how we can be having auctions at the same time as prices remaining high.

This “drop dead gorgeous renovation of a 1910 Victorian rowhouse” is located at 3617 New Hampshire Ave a block away from the Petworth metro. The asking price is $659,000. So what do you think, a good price or they’re dreaming?

These condos are located at 1337 Harvard St. and the first open house will be this Sunday. Prices range from $499k to $650k. So what do you think about Solar Powered Condos? Are we going to see many more of these? Would you buy this condo over one nearby because of the Solar Power?

In October, I posted about this building when it had just posted its “half sold!!” banner. Well now it’s practically March, so at what point do you stop celebrating that it is “half sold” and say “oh shit, it’s only half sold”?

I see these all over many real estate signs. So what are they? Would they sway one in buying one house over another? I seem to recall a friend of mine saying that they’re not actually that useful. Like there is some sort of high deductible or something. Please educate me.

So I’ve often noticed that developers often scoop up the corner rowhouses when they go for sale. I can see the appeal would be more windows, a bigger yard, and possibly less noise due to one less neighbor. So a simple question: what is the premium for owning a corner rowhouse? Is it like $50k more than the house to its left? $75k more?

but the house next door seems to be abandoned. I know we’ve sort of discussed this in this past, but this is a perfect example, we’ve left the hypothetical. So if you love a house for sale but the one right next door is deserted with broken windows etc. how much $ do you take off the asking price? Or will it just be more aggravation than what’s it’s worth?  Or would you expect/hope the abandoned house to be purchased and renovated?

When I first wrote about this goofy orange sign a few months back, very few commenters felt as outraged as I did. But now look at it. It is ridiculous. And why do I bring up this horrid orange sign again? Look in the background. They have now added a huge Banner sign. You can see a better picture after the jump. This must be over the line, no? Can anyone just string up huge signs over their porches? I’m not looking to live under a Totalitarian regime but we must have some rules. First it is small orange signs on the lawn, then it is huge ugly banners across the porch and quickly thereafter it is freaking anarchy. I don’t want to live under anarchy.  I guess you could flip that argument in the other direction but never mind.  So is anyone else outraged by this? Maybe outraged is a little too strong, is anyone else mildly upset by this? (more…)

So given the insanity of the housing market, do you notice many people renting their homes instead of selling them? I haven’t seen too many for Rent Signs around. Along the same lines, in the national press we read a lot about foreclosures happening all over the place. Are there many foreclosures going on around here?
