The Craigslist ad says:

“1 Bedroom English Basement Apartment in a corner rowhouse with great light, lots of windows in every room. 1 block from the U Street Metro and near all the U Street and 14th Street shops, restaurants and clubs.

It has access to a patio, a full kitchen and a washer/dryer. All utilities included. Sorry, no pets.”

Normally I’m not a fan of basement apartments but this one actually does look like it gets good light. Does $1500 for this location sound reasonable?

Close proximity to grocery stores, pharmacies, and other shopping conveniences. Please contact UIP Leasing to set an appointment to view this fantastic apartment.”

Does $895 sound reasonable for this 1 bed/1 bath? I chose this one (though it is a bit further north then requested) because I though it might work for the following reader who asks:

“I’m looking for a new place to live in Petworth within the rhombus defined by:

Between and Taylor and Farragut
Between Georgia and New Hampshire

Can’t afford more than $900/month incl. utilities and I come with a quiet/tidy/peaceful/herbivorous 5-year old son.

We’re game for apartments—semi-slummy to well manicured, group homes, communes, or (like our current place) rooms in someone’s house.”

Anyone have suggestions for this reader?

I’m so sad to leave this wonderful large, modern studio with hardwood floors and a great view! The building management is great, very responsive. You can see the Washington Monument and the National Cathedral. Beautiful sunsets. Clean and remodeled just before I moved in. There’s also a nice huge walk in closet/dressing room, for privacy when you have guests. There are total 3 huge closets, actually. Microwave included. AC.

On 16th St. NW at Lamont – superb location. Two blocks to Columbia Heights metro, and the S1, S2, S4 and S9 metro buses stop literally at the front door. Mt. Pleasant’s wonderful little strip of restaurants and shops is less than a block away. Rock Creek Park and Meridian Hill Park are within jogging distance. Target and the nice big Giant are less than two blocks away. Tennis courts across the street. I seriously love this place and am sad to have to move abroad right now!

Available October 1. No deposit (but there is an application fee of a couple hundred I believe.) Some of my furniture is also available for purchase if interested.”

The Craigslist ad says:

Prices range from $1200 for a studio to $1870 for a 2 bedroom. You can find more details on their Web site here.

The reader writes:

“Have you heard anything about the Fort Totten Station apartments? I am wondering if any of your readers have any thoughts on the complex… I do think their actual prices were a bit more inflated then what they are advertising on CL. I was looking at one of their 1 BR + Den and it was $1700.”

Anyone familiar with this complex? What do you guys think – do those prices sound reasonable?
