At long last Muzette has opened up at 2305 18th St, NW in the old Kokopolis spot next to Himalayan Heritage in Adams Morgan. We’ve been looking forward to this karaoke option for many months. Anyone happen to check them out yet?
Their Web site says:
“We have over 70,000 songs including English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish,Thai, Vietnamese, and more coming soon!”
Prices range from $25 – $80 per hour depending on the day, time and how many people. I’m gonna be honest – I’m dying to check this place out.

American Ice Company, located at 917 V St, NW, had a preview opening on Tuesday night and as I suspected it is absolutely ridiculously amazing. All I can I say is that the attention to detail is among the best I’ve ever seen. The beer (I had a wheat beer called 321) was perfect and the bbq was smoky goodness.
This is the best bar to open up in NW DC since nearby Dodge City which was the best new NW bar to open since Solly’s…
But back to American Ice Company, well see for yourself:

Lots more photos after the jump. (more…)

Pi Pizzeria is located at 2309 18th St NW. It looks like they might be trying to reinvent themselves a bit. I just noticed the new sign that went up and was wondering if anyone had checked out the Bottoms Up Bar yet as well? Anyone notice any other changes?
For the record, I dig the name of the bar…

“Dear PoP,
We’re throwing a Brazilian Christmas party on Saturday, December 18 called For All a Good Night. There’s going to be a live Brazilian band playing Forró and Pagode music, as well as dance lessons from a well known Samba teacher and dancer, Sonia Pessoa.
Forró (pronounced foh-haw) is a Brazilian couples dance that anyone can learn.
The event is at Level X Bar & Lounge, upstairs of Axum Ethiopian Restaurant (1934 9th St NW) and lasts from 8pm to 2:30am.”

I’m not gonna lie – when a weekend ends and I post about 4 shootings, a stabbing and a fire that occurs across the city – I can get a bit blue. So I thought you guys might feel the same and would also enjoy a bit of good news. No scratch that, a bit of fan-freaking-tastic I can hardly contain my joy potential news.
Unfortunately I can’t get into details about an exact location but let’s just say somewhere on Georgia Ave (not in a newly constructed building). I got word from a business owner who is looking to open up a new neighborhood bar. And let me say that this is not a novice but a group with a great track record. Frankly I nearly fell off my chair when I read the news. Anyway, the group is familiar with PoPville and knows from time to time we can be a bit opinionated. They also know that many of us love and respect beer and a good neighborhood bar. And they want our opinion – what is the theme of a bar you’d most like to see open up on Georgia Ave?
Initially I was thinking something like a Busboys and Poets or a Tryst type spot. However, I heard that a Beer Garden was also a possibility and I nearly fell off my chair once again. I would still do backflips for a Busboys or a Tryst but I’m gonna make my vote for a Beer Garden. What type of neighborhood bar/restaurant would you most like to see on Georgia Ave?

The recently expanded Shelly’s Backroom is located at 1831 F St, NW. This is one of the few remaining “cigar-friendly establishments” in the city. You can see their menu here and their pretty impressive drink menu here. Any fans?

“Dear PoP,
There’s clearly a restaurant being built in only remaining vacant spot on Highland Park’s ground floor at 14th and Irving? I think way back in the day, it was supposed to be a Sake Club, but I’m guessing that fell through. Have they announced what’s taking its place?”
Yup, this is going to be a sports bar called Lou’s Restaurant and Bar. This is the same sports bar that was the subject of some scuttlebutt back in April ’09. Construction has started in earnest and I’m told a March/April opening is possible. Stay tuned for more details as construction progresses.

It is not an exhaustive list though because I saw on twitter that Chesapeake Room on Barracks Row is also having an event tonight. If you know of other places hosting events please leave in comments.
