Back in April a reader sent in photos from the “Wonder Bread” building at the 600 Block of S Street, NW. The original reader sent a number of shots of old bikes that it turned out belonged to the defunct Shaw Bike Shop. Another reader was able to find some old photos they had taken. It’s pretty wild. Ed. Note: Please enjoy these photos but do not try and enter the building yourself. You can be arrested for trespassing but more importantly you can get hurt. Thanks.

Here’s another cool one from Mt. Vernon Square Triangle. I’m especially digging the balconies.

We’ve actually monitored the progress on this home across from Cardozo HS on Clifton. I just noticed that the back of this home is pretty sweet. It’s an interesting back addition. A reader last week suggested I also take photos of the front of “judging backs of rowhouses”. So I was surprised to see this was a pop up we had viewed a while ago.

So what do you think of the back? The pop up? Any supporters?

I guess I really do like this section of 10th Street, NW! I like the contrast of this corner house with the rowhomes. Almost it looks like it’s from London.

I thought this was an interesting combination of an old building contrasted with a more modern addition and new building. The buildings to the left is the Acacia Life Insurance Building house the law firm of Jones Day, located on the 300 block of New Jersey Avenue, NW (roughly). I think the glass structure in the middle looks fantastic. The new building to the right, I believe, is available for lease. So what do you think of the look?

Incidentally I had never visited the Japanese American WWII memorial:

More photos of the memorial after the jump. (more…)

Sorry it’s half cut off but you can get the sense of the coolness here. Set back from the sidewalk with a nice little front yard.

I totally forgot about this wild building. It’s located off New Jersey Ave, NW near Georgetown University Law Center. I feel like this is the National Association of Realtors building? Something like that, right? Anyway, it’s a really unusual looking building but I give it a thumbs up. I also like the view with the Capitol Building in the background to the left. What do you think – thumbs up or down?

A friend of mine live nearby and has been forwarding me emails on the efforts neighbors are making to stop the demolition of this property. On Monday night at 7:00 pm (16th and T) there will be a group protesting the demolition of this “historic 1890’s home on the corner of 16th and T”.

Council Member Jack Evans has gotten involved sending an email to the DCRA Director and Deputy Director:

“Linda and Nick,

As I have indicated in previous emails to the both of you, many nearby residents and community leaders, including Rick Busch President of the Dupont Conservancy and Robin Diener President of DCCA, DO NOT WANT TO SEE 1841 16th Street NW demolished because of its historic value to this historic neighborhood. Please continue to work with the owners and please do every thing in your power to secure the building rather than demolish it. I understand that DCRA has ruled that this property is a public safety hazard, if there is a way in which we can stabilize and save the building please know that I strongly am in support that option. If there is anything that I can do to assist DCRA is stabilizing as thus saving this property please contact me directly.

Thank you.

Jack”

I certainly support saving a historic home so hopefully the owner will be forced to make the appropriate repairs. Do you think historic homes should be saved rather than torn down even if it becomes a more expensive option? Should the owner be responsible for making the repairs?
