Demolition begins this week on the old Bruce-Monroe School (not to be mistaken with the old Bruce School located at Sherman and Kenyon) located at Georgia Ave between Columbia Rd. and Irving St. The building is gigantic. And from what I hear from folks who live near by they are pretty excited about the demo. I hear that it was a high crime area due to the hidden view from the street:

DC MUD reports:

“According to ODMPED Communications Director Sean Madigan, the Mayor’s office will issue an RFP “in the next few weeks” to select a developer to turn the 119,000-s.f. site into what “could include new housing and retail on the site as well as a new school.”

This is one of the very first house of the day picks that I ever posted. It’s in Petworth not far from Domku but shockingly I never noticed the weather vane. It is phenomenal!

I feel like this might be a re-PoP but man I love this house. Such a sweet porch and I’m digging the fence.

Wow, I haven’t been to the waterfront in a while. This building is awesome. It looks like it is going to house the Arena Stage, is that right?

The pictures don’t really do it justice but can you feel the flavor a bit? Thumbs up or down?

Thanks to a reader for sending me to the 4800 block of 5th Street, NW. This is a great house with cool landscaping and a nice side porch.

“Dear PoP,

As you might have noticed, there is a commercial building being renovated on 14th Street, right next to this porno/bike store you wrote about.

Well, the building they are renovating (forever now it seems like) has had this covering over the entire façade for the past month or so. They took it down today and it’s phenomenal what’s underneath; they’ve placed bronze all over the window bays; it’s going to be a baller building.”

Wow, looks awesome. I was wondering what these were gonna look like. The bronze (copper?) looks fantastic! This building is on the 1300 block of 14th Street, NW. Thumbs up or down?

This huge one is in upper Woodley Park. I always think it’s wild that there are houses this big in the “city”.
