Sent by Mr. T in DC – “This is Oliver, the most ferocious kitty in Popville!”

Kalia writes, “This is Charlie, my Corgi. He will be 7 years old on July 23rd!!! He loves to swim and play frisbee and shed all over your clothes! He’s the best little guy out there and of course he thinks he’s a badass ;) Charlie likes long walks on the beach, mentoring orphans, and reading to the blind in his spare time. When he isn’t nurturing sick baby kittens he spends most of his day working for a non profit organization saving the polar bears from global warming. But ladies, watch out, he’s a heartbreaker!

Vote for Charlie!”

Ed. Note: Wow, there has been great turn out already. I’ve received so many entries for this contest that I cannot individually reply to all the emails. But don’t worry your entry will be posted! The deadline for entries is August. 1st. Remember, please only send one photo per pet.

And I feel compelled to share them! This photo was a greeting “from Mica, a New York Avenue pounder: she killed that rubber chicken, put on her princess crown, and quaintly delivered a Bronx cheer for the camera.”

Right on! Although, I’m not sure she’s digging the princess crown…

What a contest! This one was close all day. It was Celia one minute and Izzy the next. But at 11:57pm the final vote was cast and Celia came through with a huge upset garnering 27% of the vote versus Izzy’s 25%. I’d like to thank all who submitted entries and apologize to those who submitted after the deadline. There’s always next year!

As for Celia, I am very proud that she will be representing PoPville as Coolest pet. I can think of no other pet to better represent us. For Celia is scrappy and three legged but has a lot of heart. We, too, may not be the prettiest folks in town but damn it we’re scrappy and we’ve got heart in PoPville.

Congratulations to Celia, all the finalists and all the great entries.

As I suspected this was a nearly impossible task. I tried to make an even mix of cats and dogs and incorporate feedback from the comments sections. All the pets were worthy however after many Budweisers I have selected the following eight. Now we work on the honor system here at PoP so please try to only vote once. If you can’t recall the pets by names I have included their photos after the jump. Winner selected Friday.

“Her name is Izzy. She’s a Scottish fold, which is why her ears are folded down like that. She lives in Logan Circle.”

Last chance to vote for finalists. I’m going to pick 5 finalists tomorrow which is going to be a nearly impossible task…

“OK, this is Abbey. The picture is almost 1 year old, but its just too darned cute not too submit. Plus, she has grown up to be a great dog, though she has this herding instinct that causes her to pace around the house until everyone is properly situated in the same room. Her sister, Zoey, deserves a future submission as well.”

Ed. note: last entries going up tomorrow. Finalists announced Wed. Winner selected Friday! More entries after the jump. (more…)

“This is my dog Rosie. She was born in a shelter in upstate New York. My partner and I fostered the whole litter, so I’ve had Rosie since she was four days old. She’s now thirteen years old, and for the past six years has been working with kids in DC’s elementary schools through a Washington Humane Society humane education program. She’s unfazed by noisy second-graders rushing her in a crowd, screaming “Rosie, Rosie, Rosie!” She keeps her cool, even when kids tell us about their dogs who were stabbed, shot or hit by a car. Rosie radiates love and the kids eat it up.”

“I submit to you- Davis “King of Rock Creek Church” who lives with my fiancee and me in Petworth.”

Ed note: Next week I will be posting 5 entries a day so the finalists can be named. Entries #32 and #33 after the jump. (more…)
