“Cosimo got out of our house at 8th and H NE on Monday night when we were bringing in our Christmas tree. He was wearing a silvery collar with his name and my address/phone number, and he is microchipped, but I am getting worried. He’s huge, but a big scaredy-cat. I feel pretty certain he’s hiding under someone’s porch. I have attached a couple of photos. If anyone has spotted him, please email me at merecain (at) yahoo.”

Ed. Note: Another reader found a gray cat in Shaw but sadly it was not Cosimo. If you know of someone who lost a gray cat please direct them to this Craigslist post.

Also last chance to help rescue the Koi fish from Meridian Hill Park:

“According to Officer Triebwasser of the Washington Humane Society (WHS), the pond at Meridian Hill Park is going to be drained on Wednesday beginning at 7 or 8 a.m. WHS is looking for people who want to help rescue the fish to arrive by 10, since it may easier to catch the fish once the pond has been partially drained. (If you can get there earlier, it might be helpful.) Wear waders if you have them, and clothes you don’t mind messing up (a 30% chance of rain showers is predicted). If you have nets or any other helpful gear, please bring that, too. Anyone who can provide a good home to any of the fish should bring appropriate containers for transporting them. Directions to the park are included below.

“Ernie’s First Thanksgiving Pics”

“There’s been a big ginger sweetheart hanging around my apartment at 3rd and Rhode Island NE. He’s been out for at least three days, and so this afternoon I took him in for some food, water and warmth. He’s got a pretty nasty cut behind one ear, but otherwise seems to be in good health. He’s also incredibly friendly, leading me to believe he has a home nearby.

I looked for, but couldn’t find, a microchip, though I’m planning on taking him to the vet later this week to make sure (and get that cut looked at). In the meantime, I thought I’d see if anybody out in the internet recognized him.”

“This is Norah, from Logan Circle, enjoying the fall weather and lovely fall leaves! We adopted her from Lucky Dog Rescue May 2010 and she is amazing. Yes, her tongue is always out, it does not fit in her mouth.”

“My husband and I found a gray kitten that seems to be about 3 or 4 months old. She (we think it’s a she) appears healthy and is extremely friendly. She showed up at our door tonight in the rain, and after 2 hours of begging, we took her into the garage and set her up with food/water/bed. She is very comfortable with humans so it seems unlikely that she is a stray. We are wondering if this adorable kitty belongs to one of our neighbors. We live on Quincy Street in Petworth.”
