What could be more comforting on these chilly early spring days than Gumbo? This 2-year-old, 39-lb. shepherd / hound mix is playful, affectionate, (obviously) handsome and cuddly. Gumbo was taken in as a stray in North Carolina and it was clear he hadn’t had the best luck before rescue. He was emaciated and had a deep gash/injury to one of his paws. His road to recovery has been swift: his paw is fully recovered and he’s put on more than 3 pounds to date! It’s amazing what love and good food can do for a dog. When Gumbo went to the vet, it was discovered that he also has an old skull/jaw fracture, identified on X-ray. It makes it difficult to open his mouth very wide, but he isn’t in any pain and can eat without any issues.. not to mention, his misaligned jaw makes him that much more adorable. We don’t want to think about how he got these injuries, but we have promised to find him a safe and loving forever home. Gumbo loves his crate and has done really well with house-training. While full grown, he still has a good amount of energy and needs a family that can provide lots of exercise and play, because a tired pup is a good pup. He’d make a great running companion! He’s also smart as a whip and eager to please! Gumbo is very friendly with other dogs and humans. He even gets along with cats, but is interested in playing with them which might be too much for most cats, so he would likely do best in a cat-free home. If you need some Gumbo in your life, you can learn more about adopting him here.

Don’t let the formality of his name fool you – Mister Handsome Pants is as down to earth as they come, though he should be shopping at the Big & Tall store. Originally from a shelter in central Virginia, Handsome is a gorgeous big boy with a bunny-soft coat and large yellow eyes. He is a very friendly and confident kitty who loves people and will likely do fine in home with gentle children; however, he is a bit of a diva, and doesn’t like other cats or dogs, so should not go to a home with other pets. Mr. Pants is about 7 years old and would be a good fit for someone looking for a calm but affectionate cat. He is neutered, vaccinated for rabies & distemper, tested negative for FIV & feline leukemia, and microchipped.
