“Millie (all grey) and Moses (white belly) taking a snooze in Petworth. These 8 mth old kittens get bigger every day!”

“Duke is on the left snoozing on Kandi’s back. They are English Springer Spaniels from Mid-Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue (MAESSR.org). Duke will be 12 in December – Kandi was left in a kennel outside of a shelter, but she is probably at least 12.

In spite of being used a a pillow, life is good!”

Hi there. This is Norman, who was recently rescued from a rough life as a hunting dog, where he wasn’t treated as well as he should have been. This hound mix may have a few scars and broken teeth, but his time in a loving foster home has taught Norman that living indoors and being loved is pawsome, and he is calm, devoted and affectionate. Norman is approximately 7 or 8 years old. He is not great with cats (due to his hunting dog past) but does well with other dogs and boy, does Norman love his people. If you’re looking for a chill dude who will pay back your love tenfold, this is your guy. Find out more about Norman and adopting him here.

Meet Ruby, a young mom who’s done an amazing job of raising her kittens under bad circumstances and is now looking for a special place to call her own! Ruby is about 2 years old, and was found surviving on the streets. This means that she is very shy, and prone to react to loud noises and sudden movements. With the help of her friends at King Street Cats Ruby is getting more used to the idea of the good life and being a cherished pet, but she needs a patient and understanding family to help her blossom into the confident and devoted kitty she has the potential to be! If you are able to give Ruby the loving and gentle home she deserves, find out more about adopting her here.

“Mowgli, a cat who is obsessed with getting in the shower, was really hoping to wish his favorite stalking target and chew toy, a.k.a. his Mom, a happy birthday on August 12th!”

“Our rescue pup Winston from West Virginia courtesy of City Dogs Rescue. He’s been in DC for almost 2 years and just made his first trip to the National Mall and The Wharf! He’s definitely living his best life in Columbia Heights.”

“Meet Beans! We adopted her from City Dogs two months ago, and she has been loving her new life in Brookland. She particularly loves meeting other pups at the Monroe Street Farmers’ Market and chilling on the grass outside the Turkey Thicket Aquatic Center. Her Instagram handle is @aw_beans”

“This is Rude Boy the Hurricane Cat. He lives in the West End where he enjoys sitting on the window ledge, plotting how he will capture all the birds that fly by once he can escape my 330 sq ft studio.

As of July 24 I officially became his mom. A friend of a friend had originally adopted him down in the British Virgin Islands, where she was living until the hurricanes struck last year. She needed someone to foster him for a bit until she could get a roof back over her head and her place was safe enough for him to also live in. Fast forward nearly a year, her place is still not finished, and we all decided it would be best if he stayed with me forever.

He’s the best.”

“Max is celebrating his 4 year gotcha day! Who knew this pup would be so much energy and still makes us smile daily.”

Merhaba! We are pleased to introduce you to world-traveler, Ankara! Ankara used to live on the streets of Istanbul before she was scooped up by a dedicated local rescuer.  After reading a few guide books and studying English, she decided to get a passport, pack her bags, and catch a flight to America!

While it took Ankara a few days to get over jet-lag and culture shock, she is now happy as a clam and looking for her forever home.  She is super sweet, ultra cuddly, incredibly goofy, and has an adorable little meow that sounds like a chirping bird.  She loooooooves to snuggle, goes bonkers for catnip, and is full of adventure and curiosity.

Ankara will happily entertain herself with toy mice and feathers, but she absolutely adores humans and will take just about any opportunity she can to cuddle up close and purr gently while you stroke her tummy.  She is a total goofball and will make you laugh a dozen times a day as she explores her surroundings and makes herself at home.  To learn more about Ankara, email [email protected]

Emma Faith is a tenacious little terrier mix with a LOT of personality!  Her foster mom says she’s a love bug who likes to be in the middle of all the action in her foster home.  She was rescued in July 2018 along with 80+ other dogs and cats from a hoarding situation in Mississippi.  Despite that, she’s confident, curious, and affectionate.  She’s recovering from hair loss due to a flea allergy she suffered from in her previous home, but her fur has already started growing back, and we expect she’ll have a full coat by Halloween! To learn more about Miss Emma Faith, please email [email protected]
