If you’re looking for a handsome and playful fellow to brighten up your home, Cool’s your man! This 2-year-old guy is as friendly as they come; he’s incredibly affectionate and genuinely loves his humans! Cool likes to play with toys and tell you about his day, but don’t worry – this even-tempered and gentle boy is a good listener, too. Cool will make a wonderful and fun companion for someone lucky – is it you? Find out more about adopting Cool here: Cool at King Street Cats

Meet Sierra! This 4-year-old lady was rescued from a neglect situation in South Carolina, but she’s now in the DC area looking for her perfect forever home! Sierra can be timid at first, but once she gets to know you she’s a moderate-energy dog who loves to cuddle. Her foster family says she’s both sweet and goofy, even as she’s learning about how great it is to live in a home! Sierra is crate-trained but can be a bit vocal when first put in the crate (mainly because she wants to go where you’re going!), so she’s probably not the best fit as an apartment dog. Sierra loves to go for walks, and has done well ignoring her foster family’s cat. She will do best in a home with an experienced dog owner who will take the time to make Sierra the confident and loving dog she was born to be! Find out more about adopting this friendly pup here: Sierra at Worthy Dog Rescue

Volunteer Note: With the economic and mental health stresses of the pandemic still very much a part of many people’s daily lives, sometimes companion animals can bear the costs. If you see an animal being abused or neglected, please contact the Humane Law Enforcement team at HRA, at (202) 723-5730. You may not just be helping the animal, but their human family as well. With that said, if you or someone you know is in need of mental health assistance, please reach out to DC’s Department of Behavioral Health, at 1-888-7WE-HELP (1-888-793-4357). Let’s look out for all our neighbors as best we can.

“My favorite fat cat in Logan Circle, that jumps right at you as you rummage through the Little Free Library, then purrs and rubs against your legs, inviting a pat.”

“River, Mt. Vernon Square”

“This is Ninja of SW Waterfront! She is a foster cat who I have had for over a year. And a bonus picture: when Ninja came to me in 2019, she arrived with her four babies, who were around 5 weeks old at the time. From left to right on the bottom is Michelangelo, Raphaella, Donatella, and Leonardo. All kittens were adopted into loving families once they became old enough.”

If your castle is in need of a pint-sized princess, look no further than Abbey. Having raised her three rambunctious kittens, Abbey is looking for a quiet place to call her own.

This dainty diva is just beginning to learn “how to cat” and trust humans but she clearly craves attention and will vocalize whenever she thinks she is not getting enough! Abbey happily purrs, runs figure eights through your legs and asks for pets constantly but if you go too far and try to rub her belly, you will be rewarded with a solid whack (no claws) . (I mean…she is a disciplinarian Abbess after all…)

Abbey would do best with an experienced cat owner who can continue to help her grow. If this quirky queen sounds like a good fit for you, please email [email protected]. You can see her background on instagram @pokeypotpie and her current life @bnussb01.

Ariel might be the most special of our special dogs. She has the largest and most dedicated groupies a dog could ever have. When Ariel came to Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation, we noticed right away that she had an issue with her – ahem- back end. X-rays revealed an old traumatic injury, probably from being hit by a car that had left her with a muscle tone deficit. This lack of muscle tone means she doesn’t have full control of her bowels. She has been going to physical therapy to help her build muscles and we are seeing some improvement. In the meantime, when Ariel goes out on Dogventures (and she goes on the regular, thanks to her fan club) she rocks a purple diaper and rocks it with style. Sometimes, she tops the diaper with a NASA t-shirt because we all know astronauts are the coolest and they also wear diapers, so…

Ariel is tolerant, patient, incredibly friendly, and loves to wrestle and play with other dogs. She is good in the car, walks nicely on a leash and is always excited to meet new friends. She is looking for a special someone, maybe with a laundry room where she can sleep at night and the ability to get her outside often during the day.

For more photos, check her out on Instagram. To learn more, email [email protected].

“Meet Midge, Bloomingdale’s newest kitten. As a newborn, Midge was found abandoned under a car in Columbia Heights in May, suffering from several ailments. After two months of foster care through DC Humane Rescue Alliance, Midge was healthy enough for adoption. She came to live with us three weeks ago and we’re so glad to have her as part of our family.”

“At just three and a half months old, Alfie, a Jack Russell mix, has a big dog’s personality in just a 7-pound frame. His favorite things include snuggling with his parents each morning in bed, digging for peanut butter in his Kong chew-toy, and his nightly outings in Logan Circle to play with the larger dogs.”
