Featured Property of the Week: 3414 Rodman Street NW

“Perfectly nestled on a quiet side-street in the heart of Cleveland Park, 3414 Rodman Street NW is a classic porch-front farmhouse. With original wavy pane glass windows (including six over six, six over one, and three over one windows), French doors, built-ins, brass doorknobs, and original hardwood floors, this home is filled with historic details yet is fully updated for modern living. The front yard, with mature plantings, leads to a welcoming front porch which is ideal for relaxing while enjoying the beautiful views of Rodman Street. The formal foyer greets you as you enter the home and opens to the living room which is bathed in sunlight and is anchored by a wood-burning fireplace. The dining room is open to the formal dining room and features a charming custom built-in bench and two exposures overlooking the garden. The updated, eat-in kitchen provides crisp cream-white cabinets (with built-in draw organizers), white quartz counters, a farmhouse sink, gas cooking and stainless appliances. The breakfast nook overlooks the peaceful rear garden and has a custom built-in bookcase for cookbooks or extra storage. There is direct access to the back yard through the breakfast room. The large, level and fully-fenced backyard is surrounded by and anchored by large, majestic trees. A detached one-car garage currently acts as a large storage shed but could be returned to use as parking. Upstairs are two spacious bedrooms, with original heart pine floors and paneled doors — further lending to the home’s character. The primary bedroom is oversized, with two closets and private access to a balcony overlooking the backyard. The ceramic tile full bath has an original medicine cabinet and window. The lower level provides a third bedroom with en-suite updated bath and private entrance to the rear garden.”

Nothing makes us happier than client feedback like this. Delivering a new kind of car repair and maintenance is exactly why we started CarCare To Go. Below is more of that Google review and you can see the rest of our reviews here.

I had a wonderful experience with CarCare To Go and will not only use them again but recommend them to others! They were exactly as advertised — fair and transparent with their pricing and communication, professional, easy and courteous. I felt like they really cared about me and my car and establishing a good, long-term relationship. I also loved the thorough inspection report, including the videos the service tech took as he walked through the issues/concerns with the areas needing repairs. Many thanks to John A., Brian, John P. and Roxi! — Misty

To celebrate the love we have for our clients, CarCare To Go is extending our January offer for an oil change for just $20.22 until February 14. No catch. Synthetic or blend for any make or model car. The only rule is that you have to book your service this month before February 14. Use code 2022 when you book.

Dear PoPville readers,

This winter has been rough.

Due to Omicron, many of our family, friends and neighbors got sick, and our hospitals were filled to capacity. And by overlapping with the holiday season, I know that many of us missed out on doing things we wanted to do and seeing people we wanted to see.

Thankfully, according to a recent NPR segment, it looks like we are turning a corner. In fact, according to the New York Times’ tracker for the District of Columbia, pictured below, cases are down 78% in the last two weeks. As case counts decrease as rapidly as they ascended, many of us are thinking through what we feel comfortable doing now and how to best enjoy our lives again.

If one thing you’ve been missing is your regular home cleaning, Well-Paid Maids is here for you and still doing everything in our power to be as COVID-safe as possible. Our cleaners are still wearing masks to every job, we are still asking customers to be masked when sharing space with them, and our staff is still 100% fully vaccinated with a rolling booster mandate in effect as cleaners become eligible.

Hey, heads up: Valentine’s Day is two weeks away. (Yeah, it has a special way of creeping up.)

It’s going to be difficult to treat your admirer to a romanic dinner out or a fun experience this year (RIP concerts), so why not go back to the basics and surprise them with flowers?

Instead of calling up one of those national florists and ordering a generic arrangement, shop local and order a unique bouquet from D.C.-based florist Volanni.

Michael Lanni, the artist behind these beautiful bouquets, is offering Valentine’s Day arrangements. You’ll find way more options than your classic red roses, too. (There’s even a “showy, elegant” arrangement called the Petworth.) Ultimately, Volanni is made up of artists and flowers are the medium.

So if you want to support local and surprise your special person with some flowers this Valentine’s Day, shop Volanni’s arrangements and place your order online by February 11 at 11 a.m.

More than ever, police departments are looking to broaden their experience base by hiring a diverse workforce — not just diverse in terms of race, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation, but also in educational experience.

MPD requires at least 60 college credits to join the Department and a large majority of officers joining the force have a four-year degree. To reach an audience with diverse skillsets, MPD has moved away from traditional recruiting videos that show action-packed, tactical operations, by specialized units, and is now focusing on the personal story of officers and their everyday experiences.

Recent MPD videos showcase an officer who saved nine lives through the use of tactical emergency casualty care, an officer who joined MPD because they saw diversity and representation within the ranks, an MPD cadet reciting their original poetry, and a call to action to be the change you want to see in a video called “Their Eyes.”

MPD is actively hiring and searching for the next generation of DC Police. Learn more at www.joinmpd.dc.gov.

The ongoing pandemic has taken a toll on all of us, particularly on students furthest from opportunity. Tutoring has been proven as one of the most effective ways to help students supplement math and literacy skills learned in the classroom.

By volunteering as a tutor, you will bring back the human connection, attention and support D.C. students need to succeed.

Check out five reasons why you should volunteer as a tutor in D.C.:

  1. Connect with students — Form bonds that will keep you coming back every week. You’ll quickly see how the students can impact your life as well.
  2. Engage with your community — Meet others who are also passionate about making a difference.
  3. Use your knowledge — Miss your geometry class? Not really using that English degree? Put your passion and skills to good use.
  4. Tutoring is convenient and flexible — CityTutor DC partners offer both virtual and in-person tutoring options to impact the next generation of leaders in D.C.
  5. Gain new skills — Receive training on how to tutor students with a special emphasis on catering to each individual student’s needs.
