More Than Just an Officer

More than ever, police departments are looking to broaden their experience base by hiring a diverse workforce — not just diverse in terms of race, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation, but also in educational experience.

MPD requires at least 60 college credits to join the Department and a large majority of officers joining the force have a four-year degree. To reach an audience with diverse skillsets, MPD has moved away from traditional recruiting videos that show action-packed, tactical operations, by specialized units, and is now focusing on the personal story of officers and their everyday experiences.

Recent MPD videos showcase an officer who saved nine lives through the use of tactical emergency casualty care, an officer who joined MPD because they saw diversity and representation within the ranks, an MPD cadet reciting their original poetry, and a call to action to be the change you want to see in a video called “Their Eyes.”

MPD is actively hiring and searching for the next generation of DC Police. Learn more at www.joinmpd.dc.gov.
