Ed note: Technically Logan Circle and U Street fall within the boundaries of Shaw but for question number five let us assume that they are distinct separate neighborhoods within Shaw.

Saturday night at about 2:00 am a car went out of control and landed on a neighbors front lawn.

Thanks to the many, many folks who sent me the Washington Business Journal article about Magic Johnson investing in Petworth. These are the condos going up above the Petworth metro. Above is a photo of Magic at the groundbreaking of the Park Place condos from 2007.

The article says: “The project, to be called Park Place, will include 161 residential units, both condominiums and rental apartments, 16,000 square feet of retail and an underground parking garage. The developers say 20 percent of the units will be dedicated as affordable units. The one and two bedroom apartments will average 860 square feet.”

Interesting that it says “both condominium and rental apartments”. Had anyone else heard about that? Anyway, great to have Magic Johnson involved with Petworth!

The new Cooper Hardware’s sign at 3459 14th Street looks great. And who knew, they sell gardening stuff too. Let’s hope these awesome new signs inspire some other local establishments to drop their flimsy banner signs.

Although this was the mural of the week a number of months ago. But I just noticed that this boarded up building has another cool feature besides the mural – the windows. That’s one of the things I like about our neighborhoods, you can walk by the same thing a thousand times and on the thousandth time you notice something new. Anyway, the windows here are the super cool old school stained glass variety. Check out a close up after the jump. (more…)

It’s all about levels and containment. Well, levels, containment and plastics but mostly levels.

I particularly like the rising sun in the background. And for some reason it is really fun to say ‘go home robot’.

It’s not spectacular but it has a certain reserved dignity that I admire.

I really do like this tree stump, it’s got character. I think it’s awesome that the folks built a fence around it. I suppose the fence may have been put up while the stump was a tree… But someone told me once that it is bad to leave stumps in the ground because they attract termites. Any truth to that? It really does look pretty cool though.
