Thanks to a reader for alerting me to this cool building. His email said it was a triangle building located near the new Floridian Condos on 9th by the 9:30 club. So it only took me about a half an hour walking up and down 9th street before I gave up and finally found it on 10th Street. It was well worth the journey though as this is a wild building. Do you like the style. Ed. note: I’m still cursing my camera for taking these damn whacked pictures. Check out another angle after the jump. (more…)

This photo certainly doesn’t do justice to how cool this garden is. I was able talk with owners Craig and Roy who explained to me that the banana trees in the pictures are over 30 years old. And last year they bore bananas for the first time which I thought was super cool. Apparently every fall you cut all the leaves off and uproot the trunks and place them in a cool spot (basement) for the winter. I think that’s wicked cool that they’ve been able to survive for over 30 years. Anyway, these guys were super nice and even showed me their back yard garden. It is a shade garden where they placed lots of recycled items. You can see some photos after the jump. The walkway was salvaged from one neighbor and the columns in the last picture were salvaged from another neighbor. Pretty sweet. So thanks again to Craig and Roy for being kind enough to explain their gardens to me, and patient enough to answer the questions of a total stranger. If I can find the place again, I’ll go back in late June to take some more photos when the garden fills out.

Thanks to a reader for pointing out to me that one of my “houses of the day” from April is now on the market (it is the one on the left). It is located at 521 Rock Creek Church Road. It is 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 1 half bathroom. The remarks say: “Gorgeous, restored Spanish style home with over 3,400 square feet.” Check out the MRIS Listing here. Now for the good part – the asking price is $703,500. So good deal or not?

I’ve been inspired by a comment from last week to call this happy hour “Crossing the Line of Decency”. So come and cross the line of decency with me and many of your neighbors from Petworth, Columbia Heights, Mt. Pleasant, Shaw and elsewhere. Looking Glass Lounge, of course, is located at 3634 Georgia Ave NW between Otis and Princeton. It is about a block away from the Petworth metro. General Manager, Dan Searing, has concocted some special mojitos for the event and happy hour prices will go all night long. I will be there at 7pm until at least midnight or until I cross the line of decency whichever comes first. All you t-shirt winners make sure to stop by so you can pick up a shirt. I also have plenty of extra t-shirts (of the classic variety) if anyone wants to pick one up for $10. See you Wed. the 21st.

So as you can probably tell, I take tons of photos all around town. Sometimes in the evenings when I’m picking photos for the next day I come across one that I have no idea what I was thinking. So I thought it would be a fun contest. Place your caption and the best one wins a PoP t-shirt.

It’s true. Just like I’ve never seen an oriental rug store that isn’t going out of business, I’ve never seen wigs that are sold for full price. So now you know – never pay full price for wigs!

Washingtonian has a nice feature on the Privado Condos. There are some very cool graphic renderings of the space. The condos will be located at 1443 Chapin Street, NW and there are 16 units that will range from $374,900 to $989,000.

Cool graphics but “Privado” could be the worst name I’ve ever heard for condos. Sometimes people think when you have an ‘o’ at the end of a word it must sound exotic or exclusive. What do you think is that the worst name for a condo or have you seen worse? Maybe this will be a good contest, who can find the worst name for a condo in DC?
