Adams Morgan has some of the most amazing apartments you can find in D.C.–not only because of the night life, but because of the panoramic rooftop views. Some friends of mine just moved into the area near Columbia Street Road, and they have a clear shot of the Washington monument, the capital building, and of the National Cathedral–a view that will simultaneously make you gasp and hate your friends for living in such a cooler place than your own.

Well, this place boasts just those kind of views. $2,550 including utilities for a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment on Columbia and 16th. Not only does it have a rooftop “oasis,” but the views from within the apartment abound from all angles as well. Of course, amidst such luxory, the kitchen is fully as you’d expect, with stainless steel appliances, designer ceiling fans (!) and hardwood floors. The complex also has a fitness center and a wireless cafe. More rentals after the jump. (more…)

I noticed this MPD officer standing “guard” at the entrance to the Target. I know he wasn’t just talking on the phone because he was there when I left as well. So I was happy to see him there but isn’t there already mall security. Did the city work out some kind of deal where MPD officers are stationed within the Target? Is it possible the officer could have been working off duty in uniform? Has anyone else seen an MPD officer standing guard in the Target? I’m not sure it is the best use of MPD resources. Seems like it’d be way better to have that officer walking around the perimeter of the complex. So, assuming the officer was on duty the Friday question of the day is: Is it necessary to have an MPD officer inside the Target or would it be better better to have officers patrolling the neighborhood right around the DCUSA complex?

Updated: Just in case Mr. T in DC is right then this would be a pretty boring Friday question of the day. So I need a back up question. I took today off work to recover from the happy hour and noticed when I was walking around there were tons of people of all backgrounds out and about. I’m sure some are students but who is everyone else out and about at cafes etc. at 1:30 in the afternoon on a Thursday? I’ve noticed it in Adams Morgan too on 18th street. Tryst and the Diner always seem to be filled with folks. How do they get to do it?

From the forum section:

“A few years ago WMATA announced a retail kiosk pilot plan that would have allowed retail kiosks in select Metrorail stations, and Columbia Heights station was one of the locations. Jim Graham successfully argued that Columbia Heights was getting enough new retail, and Petworth should get the kiosks instead. And then nothing happened.

I was wondering what happened to this program, wrote to Metro, and got the following reply. Too bad.”

I don’t know how I missed this the first time. I had to pick up some notebooks at Target today and they have an insane contraption to bring shopping carts up and down the escalator. This might be old technology but I’ve never seen this before. I guess I don’t go to malls that often but this is sweet. (more…)

I find to warn off folks it is better to use a tougher font. These letters are a bit rounded and make it seem like Mr. Tim is actually a really nice guy. Maybe some calligraphy would have a tougher edge to it?

This is another one that is more flowers of the day than garden of the day but I do enjoy saying garden of the day. Anyway, these are awesome. What kind are they? Incidentally, many of the rose bushes around town actually also smell fantastic. A neighbor alerted me to that fact. So I’ll pass on the info – next time you see a rose bush take a second and stop to smell the roses.

Bill Crandall over from Petworth News has some great photos of the Park Place Topping Out Ceremony. Crandall say “Topping out” means the concrete superstructure of a building is finished.

Crandall also reports that Councilmember Graham has confirmed that a CVS will be going in across the street in the empty lot where they used to have the old Farmers Market. This confirms my Scandalous Gossip post back in April. Sweet, my rumor to truth ratio has increased to 94% accurate. Eh, I can’t pretend to be excited by a CVS, again certainly better than a vacant lot but at the end of the day it’s a CVS.

How can you not like Flamingos? Although I do hear they can be ferocious during the months of August and September. If you do encounter one in the wild during August and September you are supposed to stand as tall as you can and make loud noises, do not try and run away for the the Flamingo can reach land speeds of up to 46 kilometers per hour. Anyway, I still like the mural.

I like the curved top and the nice three part stone design.
