Wow, I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this place before. And Beige (AB) is located at 1781 Florida Ave in the same building as the Mint gym. It is owned by Darren Miller and Broderick Lee and has been open for a year and a half. I spoke briefly with Mr. Miller. They chose this location because “there weren’t too many home stores in Adams Morgan and it felt like a good place to land”. The name And Beige was “inspired by clean, simple, and classic lines of a neutral home interior. The reason we embrace neutral colors is simple. Everyday life renders full sensory overload. We look to neutrals in creating a naturally, calming, and relaxing home environment.” There are lots of great pieces in the store. The prices range from $10 for a candle to $10,000 for a one of a kind table. It is certainly worth checking out next time you are in Adams Morgan. Lots more photos of the interior after the jump. (more…)

The back to this house if pretty fresh. It’s got the spiral staircase up to a roof deck with good looking plants. It’s also got a nice balcony and a number of those square glass blocks bordering the windows. Ok, I still don’t exactly understand those square glass blocks but those are some very nice options for a morning cup of coffee.

A commenter wrote the following about yesterday’s post on Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton:

““One cool Congresswoman”? Please. She’s a disgrace. Let’s stick to the hipster blogging and leave political commentary to those who know something about it.”

Well, sir or madam if you look at the photo of Congresswoman Norton her arms are crossed and she is obviously chilly. Thus the title, “One Cool Congresswoman” was merely referring to the fact that she was feeling cool. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

“Let’s stick to the hipster blogging”. Well, I’ve been waiting a year and a half to be called a hipster blogger and I can only respond thank you. For the past year and a half I’ve been wearing exclusively puma hoodies in winter and summer, riding a 10 speed bike with only one working gear, reading books that I don’t understand and listening to terribly obscure music that I don’t even enjoy. Until today I thought it was all for naught. So thank you dear sir or madam for recognizing who I really am. I tip my camouflage hat to you.

“Leave political commentary to those that know something about it”. I knew when I asked the Congresswoman what neighborhood she lived in that I’d have to deal with accusations like this one. When I wrote that the Congresswoman grew up on Kenyon Street I nearly deleted the entire post. For I suspected that I’d be labeled a wannabe political hack. And there is nothing that upsets an aspiring hipster more than being labeled a wannabe political hack. But damn it, sometimes you can’t sit on the truth even if it is as controversial as reporting that the Congresswoman currently lives on Capitol Hill. I, sir or madam, would not have been able to live with myself. Please forgive the brief reply but I’m late for a show at the Rock and Roll Hotel.

Won’t the mice, pigeons and/or squirrels realize that the plastic owl is in a cage and thus pose no threat? Personally, I wasn’t nearly as frightened as I normally get when I encounter plastic owls…

Despite my 97% accuracy rate, scuttlebutt is exactly that. I can not guarantee the following is 100% truth. It is merely rumor, however, history has shown there is a strong possibility that the rumors will turn out to be true.

Rumor number one: The Temperance Hall building is on the market. That means the whole building that houses Looking Glass Lounge and Yoga House is for sale not the individual businesses. Those two business have secured multi-year leases so they will not be affected should the building sell. However, it will be interesting to see if there are any longer term implications when their leases run out in a number of years. I believe the building is going for $1.3 or $1.8 million. What do you think are the implications if a sale goes through for the long term?

Rumor number two: Colorado Kitchen is currently in negotiations on renewing their lease. Rumor has it the negotiations are not going that well. There could be a move by the end of the year if a deal is not reached. Has anyone up in North Country heard this rumor?

I did a double take when I went to get my Saturday afternoon Slush Puppie at the gas station at the corner of 15th and U. I don’t know if they’ve installed televisions because people were buying huge SUVs that took a while to fill up or if they installed them because gas is becoming so expensive they were looking for ways to distract the customer so they wouldn’t realize they just paid 68 bucks to fill up their minivans. I think this idea may backfire though as watching six minutes of CNN has been known to cause outbreaks of violence, depression, irritable bowels, feinting, vomiting and nausea. If you are nursing or pregnant definitely avert your eyes if Wolf Blitzer is on.

Another good example of a vegetable garden. But I also liked the green grass type plant that is spilling over the wall. Anyone know what that plant is called? So for those who dig that style do you prefer this grass or the flowers that similarly spill over the walls?

Thanks to a curious reader for sending the update. I still can’t remember what’s going in but it’s good to know it’ll being coming down soon. I look forward to learning what stores will be going in after construction is complete.

It’s odd because this is a pretty big retaining wall across the street from Meridian Hill Park but it seems they arbitrarily chose this one spot to add a castle. I find it’s best not too think too deeply on some things so I think I’ll just say cool castle.
