Looks like the fantasy edition house sold in less than two months. I wonder if it went for the almost $1.3 million. Can any sleuths out there find out what the final sales price was?

So is this any indication that the market is beginning to stabilize in DC? Or was this house just that sweet?

The good folks at New Columbia Heights have let me know that our beer and wine options will soon be expanded. As a prolific drinker I am glad to hear this news. But personally I haven’t had a problem getting beer at the Giant. What I’d really like to know is what folks think about D’Vines. D’Vines, located next to the Starbucks on 14th St, seems like a better option to get wine. Despite having taken a wine class, and barely passing, I always appreciate knowledgeable folks advising me on my wine selections. So what’s the word on D’vines have people been enjoying it? Is it your go to spot for beer and wine or will Target become your go to spot?

I wrote about LZ Restaurant a little over a month ago but finally got to taste the goods last weekend. It was phenomenal. Has anyone else had the chance to check them out yet? This little restaurant plays a huge part in the “Beautiful Life”. I’m telling you, I would sacrifice a digit to have a place like this on Upshur Street. The owners have put their heart and soul into the place. A restaurant like this is part of what makes city living so good. It is certainly not fancy but it is authentic. The bread I had was home made and I literally savored every bite. The spot is a bit hard to find on Florida Ave. just to the west of 14th St. but you can’t miss the yellow awning. You can dine in but it is also nice that take out is an option. So if you have a hankering for some authentic Middle Eastern food don’t miss this hidden treasure. (more…)

Following up on yesterday’s post on the drive by shooting, I wonder if in addition to MPD a security firm could also contribute to the solution. This photo was taken on the outskirts of Adams Morgan near Rock Creek Park. So who hires these firms? Is it mainly to prevent burglaries? I’ve read about an area of Brooklyn, I think, that has also hired a private security firm? Would this work for Columbia Heights and other neighborhoods in DC? I’m curious to know the logistics of how the community pays for them etc. What do you think – a good idea or a waste of money?

Thanks to a reader for sending in the following news:

“Okay so maybe it was just a lowly little in-flight magazine. But on my flight back from LA this weekend, imagine my surprise when I see “Looking Glass Lounge” included in a short list of hot spots in DC. Petworth represent!”

The inflight magazine is from Air Trans Airline. Not sure if you can see it in the picture but LGL is listed in the “Go Party” section on the lower right hand side. Pretty cool that LGL and Petworth are now making it into inflight magazines.

Now if I could just find a globe that opens up into a bar…

The 5th Annual Ready Schools Projects was out in full force at the Petworth metro Monday morning. I still don’t get the bird costume but it does get your attention, I’ll give them that. So, the Ready Schools Project is sponsored by DC VOICE and the goal is to “enlist at least 100 partner organizations in the largest community research effort of this city’s history”. It sounds a bit vague to me but I’m sure the DC VOICE Web site will have greater details if you’re interested. And if you find out more about the bird, let me know…

And they seem to be doing it damn successfully. Dang, I can’t even grow a tomato. Much respect. So if you are like me and can’t grow it you can some wicked fresh corn at the U Street Farmer’s market at 14th and U. (more…)
