I don’t think this building is a grocery store anymore but I love the fact that they kept the sign. It looks fantastic, yeah? If I were going to open a grocery store that’s without a doubt the name I would choose.

I love spotting roof decks when I don’t expect them. Do you think all these rowhouses share one big roof deck or is it divided? Would you prefer one big deck or individual ones? I suppose it’s sad that there are no porches so I’d hope it is one big deck, personally.

I thought this would be an interesting good deal or not because it is just down the street from a sweet good deal or not home featured two weeks ago. That one was completely renovated and is going for $824,500. This one is located at 2813 13th Street and is an end unit row house. The flier says, “Lots of space for the money (3959 sq/ft) Freshly painted throughout and shows beautifully! Formal DR, large Kit w/ sunroom, 5 BR + 2 den/study, CAC, gas fireplace and full unfinished basement.” The asking price is $729,000. So good deal or not? In addition, is it a better or worse deal than the one up the street?
Ed. note: If anyone finds interior photos please post a link in the comments.
Well yesterday’s poll of where we are from was super successful. I’m psyched that over 500 people responded. Although, I regret leaving Park View out of the choices that was a mistake. So I’m quite curious about this question and I’m sure you are too. How old are you?

It never ceases to amaze me how nice PoP readers can be. I have been invited to so many dinners, bbqs, happy hours and parties. I’m not always able to attend all of the invites but I super appreciate them. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the nice folks who have invited me to get togethers. This is all a lead in to some super nice folks who invited me to check out a “greatest spot to drink a morning cup of coffee.” Pictured above is the precocious Olivia and her Mom and Dad(‘s leg). Indeed their coffee spot was delightful. I’ve been pining to check out one of these upper decks for ages. The owners of this house, both architects, have an incredible set up. There is a spiral staircase that leads up to a deck with a view of a beautiful tree and Rock Creek Church Road. It is really cool because there is no alley. The front of their home faces New Hampshire Ave. and the back faces Rock Creek Church, very cool indeed. So we had some killer coffee and pastries. It just boggles my mind how nice complete strangers can be. It made me realize just how lucky we are to live in the community in which we do. I don’t know what it is about Petworth, Park View, Columbia Heights, Mt. Pleasant etc but folks are beyond kind. So I just wanted to publicly thank all who have been so kind to me and surely many others as well. More photos of this incredible home after the jump. (more…)
IMGoph comments: “i’m honestly a little intrigued about your “sources”. are people in the councilmember’s office giving you information that the rest of the citzenry is not privy to? if so, does that make you feel a little uneasy knowing that the democratically elected members of our government could be withholding information from some of their constituents and giving it to others?
if you get “inside” info, doesn’t that mean that developers bidding on projects might be getting inside info as well? care to comment?”
Dear IMGoph,
I readily admit I am no Woodward nor Bernstein. I am actually a Silverman. But that’s neither here nor there. My “sources” come from everywhere. Ed. note: I’m not quite sure why everyone puts sources in quotes I promise my sources are not figments of my imagination. A source is simply one who gives information. Why do they give this information? I’m sure it is for a variety of reasons. Some are whistle blowers. Some hope to advance their own agenda. Some are simply friends. Sources are actually quite common in this country. Believe me, I find it as hard to believe as you do but PoP has actually become a bit popular in our nation’s capital and if folks want to give me information I’m not going to deny them that. It doesn’t make me uneasy in the slightest. I don’t think getting “inside information” can be extrapolated to mean that “developers bidding on projects might be getting inside info as well”. For the record I also don’t think my sources have any correlation to the advancement of big oil nor the demise of the US auto industry.
Sincerly,
PoP
So what do you guys think about sources? Are the use of sources sketchy or legit? Previous ombudsman responses can be read here, here and here.

There was a killer block party on 11th Street between Park and Monroe which was sponsored by Mentoring Works2. They are looking for volunteers for mentoring kids between the ages of 8-18. So this was their second annual block party and it rocked. Pictured above is some dancing to Soldier Boy’s famous song Superman. I saw Cmdr. Diane Groomes from MPD, Mrs. District of Columbia, and lots of folks having a good time. They even had a pool in the middle of the street! Check out some more photos after the jump.

Dear PoP,
I was wondering if composting is a topic that’s ever come up on the blog. Everyone is going green these days, but I grew up out in the country and everyone had a compost pile. We’ve looked for “urban composters” online but they are all HUGE. Our little yard is the size of a postage stamp – you would think there would be options for us too. Any chance you could ask the question and see if anyone has a solution?
Small Composter
Anyone have any ideas? And a question of my own – is it possible to build a compost pile in the city without attracting rats and other creatures?

Candidate Dee Hunter has hired some sign spinners. Pictured here is Ray Rivera who made it clear that he is a sign spinner and most definitely not a sign twirler. This picture was taken at the corner of 13th and U. How you going to top this Council Member Schwartz?
